Immunizations

I went to drop off my blue card today and I asked Ms. Norris about the immunizations and physical form. She said they are not looking at the shot records as sufficent proof but at titers or opting to get the booster shots over again.

Now my problem is I have no health insurance I went to the Oakland County Health Department and was given the runner round about the shots. They are relectant to give out those shots to me and the Varicella shot is so hard to come by.

Does anyone know where I can get these (especially the varicella) at a low cost. I am about to pull my hair out.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Immunizations

Here's your solution. Wayne County Health Dept 734-727-7000 They are on Venoy just S. of Michigan Ave. All shots are $10.00 and they have the varicella in stock. I have an appt there July 9th (they do walk ins too). I used them for most of my shots like Hep B series.

I had my Titers done at Midwest in Dearborn at Shaeffer and MI Ave. Our school (HFCC) has a discount deal with them for the titers.

Hope this helps.

Thanks so much Mybrowneyedgirl. I called the number and they were very helpful. I can't wait to get this out of the way.

Re: Immunizations

I had a physical, drug screen and titers done at Concentra for $325. I had my hep B shot done at the health dept. It is a series of three shots, each cost me $33. I had my tb test done at the health dept too, it cost $8, I think. I renewed my tetanus too, just for good measure .

I'm so glad that worked for you Tinkerbell. There is a TB Clinic near there too.

Re: Immunizations

Probably a stupid question, but I am in Macomb County. Can I utilize the Wayne County Health Department even if am not a resident? That would be a good solution for me.

Thanks.

Re: Immunizations

That's a good question. I'm not sure. They asked for my address, and financial info but I don't think I had to show my license. It's worth a call.
I'm surprised that not all county health departments are as accomodating.

I called and they do take adults outside of Wayne County!

Re: Immunizations

... Have to add...
I just went there today for my last Hep B shot and I took my kids for their varicella booster. I could not believe it.
My kid's shots were FREE.

Good love it. Something for you all to keep in mind. My insurance does not cover immunizations past age 5 so this really is helpful.

Re: Immunizations

I recall Ms.Norris mentioning that a drug screening would be necessary for WCCCD's program, but it's not included in our list of requirements. Am I overlooking something? Are we supposed to have a drug screening prior to orientation too?
