Hello RN's in Michigan. I would like to here from RN's on this site. I visit this site quite often and mostly students are taking over. I love to read what the student nurses are up to but I would really love to here from current nurses. Let me introduce myself
I am from Detroit and currently work on a cardiac telemetry unit at St. John's Hospital. I work midnights and usually have 6 patients at night. Not that great,as far as, the patient ratio and management, but team work on my unit is great. However, I would like to know about other hospitals, pros and cons, benefits, or just if you like where you work.
Please state the name of the hospital, the type of unit and just a few details of why you chose to work there. Thanks

I think you are mistaken . Students aren't taking over this forum, we are utilizing it. If nurses from MI don't have anything to post threads about, that's not something we are hindering. We should get credit for keeping this board alive .

Hi rn2b07,
I am a L&D rn. I graduated from nursing school April of 2005. I worked in neuro/trauma my first 9 months of working, then homecare - specializing in post-op open heart surgeries for 6 months and now I've been doing l&d for over a 1 1/2 years. I love it! I work for a great hospital.

I work at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. I work in SICU. I've been there since January. I love it. I typically care for 1-2 patients no more than that.

I used to work at Henry Ford as a nurse extern and now I am trying to get back there. I have applied to the SICU fllor and CICU, hopefully I'll here from them soon. I'll let you know.

Hi Rn07,
I understood what you meant, and I am a student. I will be doing my Peds rotation at St. John's and know nothing about the hospital. I will be graduating in December, and I was wanting to ask you how you liked it there. Did you know where you wanted to work upon graduation? I am confused on which hospital to go to, there are so many around here. The DMC (Harper,Hutzel, Karmanos) is where most of my training has been, and they have asked if we would be interested in working for them. Good luck to you and I will be nosy and read what the RN's are saying on this thread, you are right, you hardly ever see RN's posting on here, mostly students.

If you were an extern on SICU or CICU I'm sure you will be eligible for hire there. If you were not an extern on SICU, the manager typically does not hire new grads unless you externed there (SICU).

There are actually quite a few threads on this forum that have been written in the past about what someone is doing now with their work there. And it has been written by RNs and not students.
Are there specific questons that you have about facilities in Detroit area? Would always be much easier to get information that way, and many here do not like to post exactly where they work as we encourage people to remain anonymous here as this site is Googled all over the world.
Many of us here have worked in many hospitals in that area, so just ask away and you will get more responses. Seasoned nurses are not usually going to answer questions like this again here on this site for safety reasons and that is always our primary concern here for you.
Thanks for your understanding on this topic.

I've noticed that most postings in this particular forum are by students, also, but I don't mind at all since I am one, and I love to read about the other programs in the area!
I'd also love to read about working nurses in the area as well. Glad you started a post, but you shouldn't be upset or annoyed that students are using this forum. It's open to anyone who cares to post!

We all need to remember that we were students at some point in time. We just had a big discussion about students being on this site awhile ago. This site is as much a resource to students as it is RNs. Let's not get upset with each other. Someone's statements can be interpreted in many ways. Maybe the OP was thinking " wow there are a lot of michigan students, but where are all the michigan RNs at?" Let's not be cross with each other and get back to the topic.
