Re: Anyone In Henryford Hospital Nursing Program

Personally HFCC was a little too easy for me as I'm sure its meant to be, {DUH community college} some people struggled though.

Did you learn that sentence structure at the university?

Good luck with the cakewalk, milder-paced environment that is HFCC's nursing program. When I'm walking across the stage next week, I'll remember that I am cakewalking, not accepting my diploma. Thanks.

Another thing: do you KNOW how many people enrolled in community colleges have 4 year degrees in other fields? Their grades are just fine before they arrived here. My grades were fabulous coming in, remained stellar throughout NS, and are simply wonderful as I exit. That is representative of MY effort, not the ease of the program.

Well Said My Simple Plan!!! Congratulations on getting that diploma (even if it was from a community college!) hehehe

Re: Anyone In Henryford Hospital Nursing Program

Wowwww. I didn't know that my DISSERTATION was being checked for spelling and grammar. As I stated before MOST OF MY ACADEMIC CAREER HAS ATTAINED THROUGH A C.C so you do the math. I apparantly am no good at it.

It sounds like the need to be so offended and defensive about something so insignificant stems from ones own insecurities in thine self. In retrospect I am mature enough to admit when I'm wrong and move on. It's very possible (and I gave this a quick thought) that I could've (yes me) developed an insecurity about CC's based on jokes, comments, and triffle remarks made upon me from my university peers and so I have, in turn, subconsciously developed the same condescending tones, without ever realizing it and thats not cool because I remembered feeling as if nothing I'd done up until that point was "real". Again I won't apologize for having an opinion nor speaking the truth but I do apologize if anyone felt slighted by comments that weren't meant to sting.

And on that note... you can stick a fork in it because I'm DONE.

Candygirl- I am graduate of WSU and just about to finish my 1st year of nursing school @ HFCC. That said, I find it incredulous and extremely condescending that you would make such a statement about CC's. The program @ HFCC is known as one of the best colleges nationwide for an ADN! You have to have an 80% to pass and in nursing school, that can be very difficult considering the demanding nature of the program and the fact that we use bachelor level books. But you will to wait and see for yourself. Hopefully all the smartness that you apply to your posts will help you out. There is quite a considerable failure rate and hopefully you won't fall into that trap. Oh, but it's only a CC so who cares right?!

Re: Anyone In Henryford Hospital Nursing Program

It's too bad that attitude is still out there.

When I graduated from h.s. in the 80's, NO ONE from my little catholic school would have been caught DEAD going to a community college. That was for LOSERS!

I went to U of M, and have to admit I sort of looked down on my friends who "stayed at home" at U of M Dearborn or WSU.

Two years later, I swallowed my pride and transfered to U of M Dearborn. My grades were ok transferring in, but I was miserable living away from home. I was so much happier at the smaller school.

Now, I'm in the nursing program at a Community College. I had the option of going the accelerated route at WSU or the CC. I have to admit, part of my decision was based on my own prejudice that I would have an easier time at the CC.

I don't think that is the case at all. The program is tough. 80% to pass, three exams, 7 week classes, no "extra credit" - no exceptions! Just by getting sick for a week you are very endangered of being dropped from the program if you can't catch up.

It's sad that that perception is still out there, and I'm even ashamed that I had the same condescending attitude myself just a few months ago.

I try not to let it bother me, but sometimes it does - yet I don't want to get defensive. I was at a function not too long ago where someone was going back to school to get her masters in psych. She was saying how hard it is to go back being older with a family. When I told her I knew firsthand and told her I was in nursing school, her face brightened up and she said, "Where are you going? Madonna?"( I don't know why she thought I was going there)

When I told her Schoolcraft, her face frooze. Then, after an uncomfortable pause, she said "Well, GOOD for you!" as if I just pulled myself out of the gutter.

I hope CandyGirl does well in whatever program she goes to, and if she ends up in the nursing program at a CC she is PROUD of herself as well!

Personally Candygirl (or whatever your name is) I could care less about what you feel. Your comment did not sting (I am not that thin skinned) and no, definitely not insecure. What worries me is your attitude and how it will determine the kind of nurse you become. Judging from your previous posts, you come across as though you feel very superior. Maybe I am wrong, but that is how you come across to me.

I went to HFCC's nursing program. It is NOT easy. If anyone thinks they can go into that program with a cocky attitude, you better check it at the door. If you don't, the instructors will.

I happen to know a couple of the professors at HFCC who teach the nursing program. If you come in with an attitude, they'll be more than happy to straighten it out for you.

Ms. B and Ms. T,my two favorite instructors. You'll really be in for it if you get them for clinicals. Especially, Ms. B. I've seen other students' careplans. Lots of red...look like someone bled on it after she got through with it.

I've seen Ms. T really go off on a student in the middle of clinical. It was not fun. In peds I did poorly on the first test, she specifically told me "I know you can do better on the next test and if you don't, I will kick your butt". Needless to say, I did much better on the second test. My eval for the clinical was very good in the end. She said I grew a lot.
