hi guys.....im a nurse from the philippines and im currently working on my papers just so i can get a taste of what you've all been talking about -life as a nurse in Ma. now that i have read all the good things you have to say about Ma. well that got me more excited and inspired to finish all the necessary exams. Plus, the fact that I have been offered to work in one of the hospitals located in fall river.

I hope to meet you someday soon! thanks for those inspiring messages!

New to MA "HealthCare" - HELP!!!!

Need your help! My hubby and I are new to Mass - and in the past 2 mos he has been in the ED twice - with 6 rediculous MD appts in between - one doc went on vacation w/o notifying his patients - (OOPS!), and another made us wait for 2 hrs, then locked the door behind us without continuing my husbands meds!!!! Others have office hrs from 9 - 1pm! Basically I cant get him in to see anyone for weeks - they have told him just to go back to the ED!!! I am crazed not being able to find a PCP for him - I cannot for the life of me figure out the magic word to use when I call for an appt (Critical?, Lifethreatening?) - An appt 2 months from now will just not cut it!!!! I have been stopping strangers on the street asking them for referrals!!!!

MD from our home state refused to treat him long distance - (regretable, but understandable); ED docs give him meds for 5 days, with no follow-up!

Have to say, the ANP was wonderful to us till we could see the doc, but she floats and doesnt have her own patients; ED nurses sympathize, but cant help.

So, how about it - any ideas? For all the wonderful science in this part of the country, I have never seen such lack of care!

Suggestions welcomed......

Not knowing what your husband needs, I would first suggest you call your insurance carrier to see if they can refer you to a PCP who is taking patients right now. If you don't have insurance, try your neighborhood health center. If that is a no go, go to one of the smaller hospitals and ask for a physician referral. Somebody is going to see your husband!! Even the big hospitals have physician referral lines, and many will at least get you in to see a resident. Keep trying!

Hi all! I'm a newly licensed nurse working in the Boston area. I survived my first week of orientation. =) Can anyone give me their two cents on health insurance plans? The hospital I work for offer a variety of plans. What's the different between pre-tax plans and post-tax plans? Which one is better?

Thanks!

What part of Western MA are you guys from? I am working my way to the RN program. I won't be able to begin this September though, have to wait until next September.
