RN jobs in Boston area

by jingjok

Hello Everyone, I just moved to Boston about a week and a half ago from Toronto, Canada. I'm currently working for a dialysis company and don't feel that it is doing it for me.

I've been applying like crazy for jobs in major hospitals like Tufts, Boston Medical Center, MGH, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Beth Israel but haven't had any luck hearing back from them at all. Any words on how to get into these hospitals? I really want to get into the hospitals for the security and all the good things I've heard about it. I've been nursing for about a year now and have med/surg and hemodialysis experience from Canada. Please help!

Things are very tight here in the city, but where you have a year of experience, you may have better luck than some of the new grads (like myself) are having..
I went to a job fair in the Longwood Medical Area today, and was advised by a recruiter to be persistent. Keep calling/e-mailing to follow up, and keep applying to postings, because if a recruiter continuously sees/hears your name, they may be more likely to contact you.
I worked at one of the major hospitals you mentioned, and even as an internal transfer applicant (Nurse Tech --> RN) I'm having a tough time getting a job there. Everyone wants to work in the big name hospitals.
Where are you living? Have you tried community hospitals, such as the Caritas Christi system (they have locations in Boston), or places just outside of town? While it may be your dream to work in a major Boston hospital, it's very tough as of right now to get their attention---there is a MAJOR glut in the Boston area.

Google "MA Hospitals", and you will find a list of all of the hospitals in the state.

Hope I was some help. Keep trying.

That's what we want to know, too. The Boston market is extremely tough to get into right now. Most hospitals are on a hiring freeze and those that aren't are just hiring internally. I've applied to every acute hospital in MA and only heard back from one (didn't get the job). Sorry. The economy around here is pretty discouraging...I've reduced myself to the fact that I'm going to have to remain a CNA for a few more months.....

Are you serious?? Every hospital?? You can't find an RN job anywhere? That is depressing...I am so sorry for you! Now I am annoyed. I am just starting so I have 2 years for things to turn around...and that's saying I will even pass NS.
