Wink Need feedback on North Shore CC...

Hi,

I am considering NSCC because of its proximity to my residence (10 mins.). Does anyone here graduated from or is currently taking the ADN program at NSCC? Would appreciate feedback on admission (waiting period), the quality of lectures, and passing rate as well. Thanks.

Re: Need feedback on North Shore CC...

Hi there,

North Shore Community College has a great Nursing program. I just graduated from there in 5/2006 and had no problem finding an RN job in the North Shore area.

The teachers and clinical locations are fantastic.

As far as pass rate, I think it is in the mid-90%

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Re: Need feedback on North Shore CC...

That's great to hear! I hope NSCC has evening or part-time option. Anyway, that will be my concern if accepted in the program. Getting into the program is very competitive so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I'm also looking at Bunker Hill as it has evening and weekend options; however, it's about 25 mins. drive from my place. Having an 11-month-old isn't easy... Thanks, I'll keep you posted.

Re: Need feedback on North Shore CC...

Northern Essex Community College has a great program, too. The nursing program is on their Lawrence, MA campus. I'm starting the program in Sept, but I have heard nothing but wonderful things about it.

You should check into there, also. It's probably about the same distance as BHCC except you won't have to deal w/ the traffic! If you have any questions about this program, let me know.

Hi, Thanks for your input. Just checked their admission requirements. Here are my questions:

1. Were you put in a waitlist?
2. When did you submit your application?
3. Did you take all the pre-reqs. before submitting your application?
4. Does TEAS include question items on college math or algebra?
5. My target is Fall 2008, can I go there anytime to meet with an advisor?

Really appreciate your answers. Tried dialing their number but I'm getting a voice message. Thanks and CONGRATULATIONS.

Re: Need feedback on North Shore CC...

1. Were you put in a waitlist?
No, thankfully not! They start fresh every year, meaning they don't have a super long wait list. As long as you have your application in by the deadline, they will review your application with everyone else. They will accept 40 students for the day, 32 students for the evening and then they accept a few extra for each program and put them on a waiting list. I think it's about 1/2 the capacity of each program. So there are 20 people on the wait list for the day and 16 for night. If a spot opens for them that year, then they get in. If not, then they are offered a seat for the following year.
2. When did you submit your application?

I submitted my application by the Jan 31, 2007 deadline. The first deadline was Nov 2006 (for the fall 2007 program). This was the early admission deadline. I could have qualified for this, but I wanted them to take into consideration my fall classes so I waited to the second deadline.
For early acceptance (in Nov), they accept up to 1/2 of the class. On the second deadline (Jan) they accept the rest.

3. Did you take all the pre-reqs. before submitting your application?
Yes, I did. I have ALL of the required classes except the nursing classes. Honestly, it's the only way you'll really be considered at this point. I've heard of them accepting a few students with one or two classes remaining, but that's about the extent of it. You have to have pretty high grades...I have all A's in everything, except for one B+ in A&PI. You also have to take the TEAS Test, which in my opinion is super easy compared to the NLN> I think North Shore requires the NLN. You need to score in the high 70's or above to be considered, but honestly, that's easy.
4. Does TEAS include question items on college math or algebra?
Yes, but the math is pretty easy. Just brush up on ratios and proportions, algebra, fractions, etc. Get the TEAS Study book. I have the old one and wouldn't mind sending it to you for free!
5. My target is Fall 2008, can I go there anytime to meet with an advisor?
Yes you can!!! You can go to the Lawrence campus or Haverhill! Go sooner than later. Do you have many more classes to take? If you're looking for Fall of 2008, then you will be applying by this November's early deadline, or if you want them to take into consideration your fall 2007 grades, then you'll apply by Jan 2008 for the Fall 2008 start date. Remember you have to take the TEAS Test, too!

If you have any more questions, just shout. I really love this school. I've been doing my prereqs there for the past two years and I have nothing but wonderful things to say about it!

Hi,

Sent you private email. I checked the price of the review material but if you can send it to me for free, that will be great! Thanks.
