Hospitals that hire new grads?
|
|
Hi Everyone!
I graduated May 12th, passed my NCLEX June 1st, and am having a terrible time trying to get into ANY MA hospital!!
currently I work as a Visiting Nurse, but I don't really like it and would love to be in a hospital setting. I have applied everywhere with no result... and I've been applying since March!! It seems that unless you are related to a current nurse or HR that they won't even give you the time of day... I'm so frustrated I want to cry!!
Any help??

Dont give up. Many hospitals hire new grads a couple of times a year for there new grad program. Keep applying and follow up with HR. Also check the Sunday paper for job fair listings. Its tough to find a job as a new grad but I am sure that you will find one. Keep the faith!

I'm having a horrible time also. I did read that NE Baptist is still accepting new grad RN applications thru this week.
I think I've interviewed 100 times, all at long-term care, which I really don't want. And sent out a million resumes. I figured I'd increase my odds by getting my MA and NH license, but no luck.
Where are you doing Visiting nurse work, if you don't mind my asking. I'd love to do something like that!

I'm having the same problem. I think I've applied at every hospital in MA and am now starting to apply to RI hospitals also. I've been searching since March. The only places that have called me back are psych and nursing home/rehab

It's rough out there in the Boston-area hospitals... I, too, have started applying in March (including community hospitals outside of boston!), and waited until July to finally have 1 callback for an interview.
If you are interested in BIDMC: I heard from a HR personnel that they are done hiring for new grads this year and that they won't be hiring any new grads until next year.

hi,
geez reading your posts makes me feel lucky. I got a job, but I think it helped that I have EMS expereince (will be a new grad in the ER) and knew some people, but more I think it was my past experience. The hosptial I am at hired 14 new grads soem in med surg and others in specialty, but honestly 2 others did their capstone at the hospital, and the rest worked as CNAs there, so I guess it is tough to get a job.
Don't give up though, just keep calling those recruiters every once in a while. There are a ton of hospitals in MA so maybe search on the internet and make sure you covered them all.
Good luck to everyone

I think you 9 years of EMS helped. Are you telling me there are no jobs even in a SNF?

hi Alex,
I am not sure about SNF since I did not look into that, as I was not interested. I am sure there are jobs there, but the OP was talking hospitals I thought.

New Grad Blues...but then again
|
|
Hi, Everyone,
I'm a new grad in the Boston area too (licensed July 21). I think there are just too few formal new grad programs and too many of us, so I am scouring any job in med-surg that does not specify a required amount of experience and trying for those. I just landed an interview last week in a place that does not have a formal new grad program but DOES hire new grads and gives a solid orientation and preceptor program. I felt the same frustration , etc., that others are feeling until I realized that there have to be ways of starting out in nursing without going through a formal new grad program. So I am making a stab at other ways to get "in" and will keep trying until I do. I am prepared to keep looking and looking, and I did hear that some new grad opps are opening up again in the fall. But I'm not limiting myself to that or necessarily waiting around for it. I'm sure there are TONS of experienced nurses who entered and flourished when there was no such thing as a "new grad program," and if they survived, so can we. I'm not saying it wouldn't be ideal, but I'm just not sure it's the only way to do this...
Hope that helps. I really want this job and I hope I get it!
