Re: CNA looking for (possibly free) training and non-nursing home job.

The only FREE programs I have seen are in nursing homes. The Red Cross offers training classes but obviously those are not free. There are TONS of jobs in a variety of settings are aren't EXCLUSIVELY geriatric but most jobs are going to have a mix of patients. Just go onto Bostonworks.boston.com and search under PCA or CNA for the listings. But the only way I have seen to get free training is through LTC.

Good Luck w/ your search.

Re: CNA looking for (possibly free) training and non-nursing home job.

I agree that the only way to get free training is probably through a LTC facility. There are plenty of jobs in hospitals for techs which involves more training than a CNA. Most hospitals I have been associated with hire more techs than CNAs as their job enables them to do more procedures that CNAs cannot such as caths and some treatments. My advice would be to find a place that you are interested in working and contact them, ask them if they hire CNAs or techs and ask them if they have any type of assistance to help you aquire the certification and or training you would need to obtain a position with them. Good Luck!!
