Re: Bhcc

Hi 617Mom,

I know I'm going off the subject here, but not until I saw your user name did I realize that my birth-day (6th) and my daughters birth-day(17th) is equal to our area code "617"...LOL

Ok back to nursing. Looks like you have a great shot. Unfortunately GPA really doesn't come into play unless they have close candidates and trying to rule out one..it's really secondary information (so I'm told). Great TEAS scores! . I also applied to RCC. I'm going to take statistics either in the summer or fall, pending on the acceptance/rejection letter.

I'm also majoring in business concentration...I have 1 semester left for that, but will obviously put it on hold pending the outcome in a few weeks.

I applied to the day (1st choice); evening (2nd choice).

I'm sure you'll get in, but do you have a plan B? I'll definitely apply again over the summer for Jan '09, but I pray that's not necessary

Re: Bhcc

my plan B is to go to UMASS, although i have no way to pay for it, and i can't take out anymore student loans. i am hoping to get scholarships if i go there.

i didn't get into Regis, even with a 3.9 GPA, so i'm not too optimistic about getting into BHCC either.

i know someone in the BHCC program now, and she told me that it really helps a lot if you are a minority, male, or an older student. i am a 30-ish white female, so i think the odds are against me for that reason alone.

Re: Bhcc

I'm hoping to enter into the program. I'm not quite finished with the prereqs and although my cum GPA is a 3.667 at BHCC I am enrolled in a Bachelors program at Harvard in Biology. I really want this and I think if I just sit down and talk to them then I should have a fighting chance. I've completed most all prereqs except for drug calcs, microbio (will be taking in the fall), and the statistics course. Other than that I wont need any other courses to complete except for the four or five nursing ones. Any thoughts? I'm a career changer (although I'm only 23 and a male) and I work at a computer company. I'm also a former foster child and orphan and writing a book for foster children about success in life.

Re: Bhcc

Hi RuseRN2b3

I'm not sure what you mean when you say you want to sit down and talk with them? I'm assuming you're shooting for the weekend program which requires that all pre-req and core classes be taken first, otherwise from your list of classes all you would need is Drug Cal. If you haven't taken MAT195, then yes you would need statistics or a class that satisfies the Quanatative Thought area.

With that said even if you're applying to the day program I would still suggest taking all or as many core classes to avoid having to take it during the program and I'm sure that also make your more favorable.

All in all it appears that the TEAS score is the priority and GPA is a secondary measure. Any questions let me know. I wish you the best of luck.

Re: Bhcc

Thanks, I really appreciate it. I meant to be able to transition to a more competitive application I could possibly sit down with the director of the program/dean and see if they could nudge my app a bit. Then again, it seems all of these programs are competitive to enter into so I suppose it's challenging enough. Yep, i'm going to be taking 195 over the Summer, Microbiology, and statistic in the fall. I'm shooting for entrance either on the next go in Jan or next fall.

Re: Bhcc

Ok gottcha. Well I remember during the information session that one of the questions was what weight the TEAS has and they couldn't stress it enough, but did advise that if your scores weren't that great then you want to ace your pre-reqs....

Re: Bhcc

Thanks, so I'll definately concentrate on studying that information as well as trying to ace the prereqs. It's challenging to get great grades while working full time.

Re: Bhcc

i know someone who got in with an 80 on the TEAS. and i have heard of someone who got in with a score in the 70's on the TEAS. so i think BHCC considers other factors besides the TEAS score.

RuseRN, i would not contact the dean about your application. they might find that too pushy. you can talk to the admissions office though.

Re: Bhcc

HI 617MOM,

I'm sorry I thought I PM you on yesterday regarding the CPR class. I heard good thing about Carney Hopsital in Boston -$30.00. They have Satruday classes twice a week and other days. I'm going on 6/21. Going to work now but I know on another thread someone sent web links to different places....I'll be home around 9:30pm and will send it to you then.
