Where Can I Go?

I've been in maryland for about a year and a half i moved from florida to here. i've been a nurse for 6 years part LPN and part RN. All of my years have been in med-surg nursing and LTC with a few months of ICU and PSYCH. I currently work on a Med-surg unit with chronic and acute patients on ventilators. I want to go back to the hospital and work in the ER. MD is so different from FL i'm running into trouble seems like the hospitals all have training programs that u have to wait for that start next year and they wont hire me for even med-surg position now either bcuz training program still required. IS THERE A HOSPITAL THAT WILL HIRE ME RIGHT NOW?
AND THAT CAN MATCH OR BEAT MY CURRENT PAY?

Re: Where Can I Go?

Chinadoll-
I would argue as a former marylander, that if the facilities suggest you need a training program to return to acute care, then you do. The hospitals in maryland are suffering from the "shortage" and are willing to hire all comers with a license and a pulse. The caveat being that said persons must have had recent experience in the area in which they want to practice. From your post I gather you are working in either a LTC or LTAC setting, an entirely different animal than the ER. Most hospitals will treat you as a new grad since the specialty is so demanding. I know that my old hospital did not have a formal new grad training for ER RN's and therefore only hired experienced ER RN's who could be shown the med room and basic hospital procedure and begin functioning effectively. They were paid VERY well, but the er flowed wonderfully. So my advice to you is this:
Suck it up, go to the training programs and absorb as much info as possible. get out, and love what you do.
