Should I be worried that Villa Julie was on probation, due to the passing rate was below the required standards? I thought it was recently re-evaluated and is no longer on probation? If I choose to accept and go to VJU, will the fact that it was on probation affect my career and/or other opportunities...?

What school would be better to go to... CCBC or VJU?

If I go for the ADN... is it hard to get accepted into the BSN afterwards?

When do UMB letters come out. I dont know how to check it online.

Hi Shortstuff52, I don't really know what to tell you about Villa Julie. I thought about applying there, but the probation plus the cost of tuition made me decide against it. A program I was considering attending in a different state was on probation when I began taking my prereq's, and by the time I completed enough classes to apply, they lost their accreditation. This is mainly a concern for me because I move a lot, and I wanted to make transferring any credits I've earned as easy as possible, so I always look for schools with a national accreditation that is in good standing. However, I don't know what, if anything, their probation status would mean for your career or future opportunities.

I also don't know if it's hard to get accepted into a BSN program after you have an ADN, although I imagine it's not.

I've heard mostly good things about CCBC, and I guess UMB is sending out letters now.

I'm considering Villa Julie for my ADN to BSN and from what I hear it isn't hard getting in. I can't say I'd be comfortable with their status if I was starting the program new however. I would definitely speak with someone at the BON to see just how this type of thing works and what would happen if the program was pulled while you are in the middle of it. The cost is also something that would really deter me especially if you can get into a CC because they are so cheap. Good luck.

I understand what you mean when you say that NCLEX is a solo sport, however I personally would be very cautious before attending a school with a significantly lower pass rate than other local schools. It only makes sense that there is some reason why close to 25% of students from that school don't pass the first time. It's possible that the the ball is being dropped somewhere in the preperation peice. Are students not being tested in a manner to prepare them for NCLEX? Are they not being offered a review or required a NCLEX review? It would be quite helpful to talk to someone from said school wo had some first hand knowledge.

For RN to BSN, obviously you don't have that concern. I have heard that the RN to BSN are much less competitive. I think it has something to do with not having to worry about the clinical space that limits the non RN programs.

Someone else brought up this point and it made sense to me with regard to the fact that the BSN programs don't have the competition that the CCs have (in my LPN school there were over 400 applicants for 40 spaces) so is it possilble that the students aptitudes are lower and that is why they aren't testing that great? Or is VJC focusing more on clinical skills unlike the schools I went to where it was all about NCLEX? The difference between a school with an 85% pass rate might only be 1 or 2 extra students passing so comparing different programs is apples and oranges. The other thing is that imo with VJU if only 25% aren't passing NCLEX I am confident that I surely wouldn't be one of them so maybe that is why I don't worry about the passing rates.

I just graduated from VJC May 16, 2008. According to the director of nursing this is a rumor if you go on the board of nursing website they are not on probabtion but their scores aren't that good she says it's 87. I saw something different. I'm glad I got my BSN but Villa Julie is doing something that is more stressful for a new grade and that is because of their scores they are forcing you to take a RN predictor test if you don't do well on this you can't take NCLEX until you pass Kaplan or some other program that helps you. You have to pass Kaplan or you will have to continue to take ATI which is their nursing predictor test which is the worst test ever. So, you might be ok with going to VJC they are changing a lot of stuff with their program hopefully it would be better for you than for me. Wish you all the luck in your decision

If you look at the passing rates on the MD BON site, you'll notice that the average passing rate for community colleges is 10% higher than the average passing rate for universities.
