Smile part-time job for full time BSN student?

Hello everyone!

I was wondering if someone could tell me, if I go to school full time in Baltimore at a two year BSN program, is it advisable to work p/t like on the weekends or should I wait until the summer when there's no classes. I'm going for my 2nd degree, and do not have my CNA and no nursing experience. I need some extra cash to pay for credit cards and whatnot. Any paid-internships or hospitals that accept current nursing students? Thanks!

I'm normally a fan of working while in nursing school but its my understanding that those accelerated programs are pretty tough. I'd consider bartending or waitressing to get the most for your buck. Good luck.

Thanks Jules. I was actually considering bartending. I don't have any experience bartending either but I know of a local bar/karaoke place that I go to all the time. I will look into my school schedule and see if I can squeeze in a job as well.

Re: part-time job for full time BSN student?

Hi! I'm in my 1st semester of nursing school & I was fortunate enough to be able to drop down to part-time at my current job this semester, but next semester's schedule will not permit to work there anymore. As a result, I recently applied for & obtained a student nursing position at one of the local hospitals with no nursing experience. I'll be eligible for my CNA license at the end of the semester & I start in January.

Unfortunately, I have to work in order to survive, but I'll be getting additional experience in the field &, hopefully, it helps with school. In addition, there are willing to work with your schedule because they know you're in school.

You definitely would make more money bartending. Let us know what you decide to do. Good luck!

Thank you VJ for the reply. I will definitely let you guys know what I decide to do. I will also look into other hospitals as well. How much do they pay CNA's hourly? Also, what about a medical transcriptionist? I think I'll have to take classes for that too.

Re: part-time job for full time BSN student?

UMMS pays $15 per hour, 10% differential weeknights & weekend days, 15% diff. weekend nights for student nurses. CNAs and tech get $11 or $12, but they get benefits & have to work a certain schedule.

I think you do have to take classes for medical transcription. Check out GBMC since its not too far away from your school. They also give scholarship money!
