It does sound true that they are making a concerted effort to move toward loking at the whole package an applicant brings to the table and really emphasized the entrance essay. This is not the place to slack off because you think your grades are that good.

FYI- the new student center, located adjacent to the SON, will be opening January 2009 and looks awesome! swimming pool, athletic facility, student lounges, restaurants..lots of good stuff. Another perk!

Thanks again to everyone who has contributed to this thread!
The was only one site that offered two 6 hour clinical days, one semester, and the two days were in the evening, something like 3p - 9p. I believe it was pediatrics.

It is not the most organized place... and people who went there ten years ago say it was the same then...

Re: is anybody applying to umd and what are ur gpas

Thank you for the clinical, parking and uniform info. I'm sure the school will get around to providing this information, but knowing some of this now is really helpful, especially the clinical information.

It shouldn't be a problem most of the time, but my husband is in the army and sometimes he is away from home, he's actually out of town now, and since this isn't where any of my other family or close friends live, finding that early morning babysitter will be a little more challenging. So it's good to have this extra time to work out the details.

clhRN2b2010, this sounds pretty much like what they said at the info session I went to earlier this year. Not much information about clinicals, but they did emphasize the essay. I took heed and put a lot of work into it, and I think it paid off. The hardest part was trying to fit everything into 2 pages or less. Took me about a week to edit it down .
