Question Relocation Info?

Hi,
My family and I are planning to relocate to New England in a year or so and are looking for a good place to live/work. I am a 2 year RN with Neuro ICU experience, but also like cardiology, gen'l ICU, and emergency nursing. Where are good, affordable places to live? What are working conditions like for nurses in Maine. Patient to staff ratio? Pay scales? Job opportunities? etc...Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.
Adrianne

Maine is a great state to live and bring up a family. There are still the urban problems, but much less in number. If you are lookin g for Neuro than you are looking at Maine Med(Portland), Central Maine Medical Center(Lewiston), or Eastern Maine Med (Bangor). I know CMMC best and it is a good place to work, you may find the money less that where you were, but the wages are about equal at these hospitals. I work in a more rural area, we are associated with CMMC. Check their website for jobs at any of their hospitals. www.cmhc.org Remember that the rural hospitals have their own positives, such as no being a number to others and being able to be involved.
The Summers here are great and the winters can be long, but if you can't take the winters, you don't deserve the Summers!

Thanks for the info. We agree about the winters. Fortunately we like winter and are looking forward to living in an area with real seasons again. I tried the link you provided and ended up on a phone company site. I'll search for the hospital site on a search engine.
We just returned from a trip to New England. Camped in Northern New Hampshire and traveled all over...Vermont, Maine and NH...we liked Northern Maine alot...Bangor seemed like an interesting city? We loved the norther coast...any info. on that area... What area do you live in...close to Lewiston? What distance would be a reasonable commute in the winter? What is the pay scale like? How about patient to staff ratios. What are the biggest needs in Maine hospitals? Any info you send would be helpful...Thanks again
