Next step, CEN or BSN

Looking to continue my nursing education. Currently work in a small ED where my ADN suits me well. My goal as a nurse has always been to continue with learning and eventually move on to a bigger ED where I'll be able to get my daily epi/nor-epi release instead of waiting weeks.

So my question to those seasoned vets out there at this point what would suit me better, finding a CEN course or moving forward and start working on my BSN?

Any insight?

CEN is a certification, but it's not really a course. There are a few review courses for the exam, but they're not required. I passed CEN with no trouble only a few months after graduation from nursing school and I'm not working as an ER nurse. I'd go for CEN next.

Re: Next step, CEN or BSN

CEN is nice to have - I did mine when I had two years under my belt in a busy level one trauma (I'm slower than Eric - lol). It was very easy and I studied little. As to the BSN (I've got one of those too) - since you want to go on, that will give you an advantage. I was an ADN who wanted more opportunites so went that route and have been glad that I did. Good luck.

I'm skipping the BSN and doing RN to MSN. Finish my masters in nursing education and hopefully do a CNS program.

Or your coworkers could sneak up behind you and scream "CODE!!" in your ear every day. I'd do it...:gandalf:

rninme - that is what I wanted to do. Unfortunately, couldn't find a program to match my interests. I did a post-MSN CNS though.
