Can anyone LIVING AND WORKING in Maine suggest some towns that may be 45 minutes to an hour away from a large(r) hospital AND that are "affordable?" Thanks!

Thumbs up Re: Living and Working in Maine

Well.... a commute of 30 to 45 minutes to get to work in Maine is not at all unusual. (Traffic jams are almost unheard of though.) You can live fairly cheaply within commuting distance of Bangor, Lewiston-Auburn, and Portland.....and still work in a big hospital. We live 30 min from the Coast and also from my work ( I'm a nursing program director). We also live next door to a good size lake and paid about 125 grand for a nice cape cod house with property 5 years ago. Lived here all my life, visited lots of places and would never live anywhere else. Maine rocks if you like the outdoors! ( A bad day fishing is better than the best day at work !)

Skowhegan. It has a nice regional hospital, and there's Maine General 20 minutes away in Waterville, Franklin Memorial 35 minutes away in Farmington, and Bangor 50 miles away. Great area for outdoor activities, as well.
