Hi there, I am wondering if any public health nurses can share their experiences working in Maine. Do you find your job satisfying? Why do you like it? Any drawbacks? I am currently working at a community hospital near where I live and am considering a move to PHN. I am a recent grad with about 5 months experience, plus several years of previous experience as a social worker. I'm hoping this will help. Any advice is much apprecaited. Thanks!
i work with a nurse that just left Public Health and came back to the hospital because of low pay for phn's.....you might want to check the pay scale ....irregardless...nice to hear from another Maine RN!!!
Ditto Here on the low salary of PHN's. I worked over 5 years in the public health field and gave it up due to low wages and work hours. Monday-Friday 8-4:30 for me just wasn't working. I am now back in the hospital setting and love having week days off and more cash :-) I was so glad that I always kept my skills up by working PRN at the hospital over those years. Many of my PHN co-workers have been out of the hospital setting too long and are stuck until they can take a refresher course.
I'm not currently living in Maine, but grew up there. I am in Virginia now.
