Re: OLOL Accelerated -Fall 2007

I was accepted into the accelerated program in baton rouge. Does anyone know when the start date is (i heard it might not be until october) and if there is going to be a stipend offered?

Re: OLOL Accelerated -Fall 2007

I finished the accelerated program in May 2006. It was not that difficult at all. I am An RN at EJ in Metairie and feel like I was 90% prepared for the real world of nursing. A lot you need to succeed comes with experience and just "being a nurse". Good luck to all of you. I did it with 3 young kids and still had great grades. Just remember, as said before, it is only 9 months. It flies by and is very worth it.

Question Re: OLOL Accelerated -Fall 2007

Can anyone give me an idea of what the cut off gpa is for admittance into the accel program? Also, is the cum gpa and/or pre-requisite gpa used for admission into the program? Does OLOL require that 6cr hrs be completed at their school before applying to the accel program? I would love to apply to both BR and NO campuses for Fall 2008. My gpa from my undergrad degree sucks, but my pre-requisite gpa is over a 3.0 for sure. I can definitely retake a few classes I made C's in to boost my gpa if need be. If anyone can give me any advice, I would surely appreciate it. I think OLOL accel program requires an interview. Interview tips would be appreciated as well. Thanks in advance.

Re: OLOL Accelerated -Fall 2007

I am in the NO accelerated program right now. I do not know that the school looks at GPA, of course your grades need to be decent but I was told when I applied that it is the essay that you are required to write that seperates the applicants. If you have taken technical writing then use the rules you were given for a process paper, if not then find a technical writing teacher and learn how to write this type of paper. Understand that no-one wants to say on here what their GPA is. That is understandable right? I mean, what is yours?

The most important thing to remember is that this is one serious program, it is not for procrastinaters or those who are lazy. There are people in the program that will have to have family members out of state raise their child for the next 8 months because you have to put all of your time into school work. The people in this program are the best of the best. Smart people; for the first time I do not have the best grades in the class.. by far.

The interview was not bad, they asked questions, I asked questions, they smiled alot. I think by the time we had interviews their minds were already made up. Just be confident and let it show.

Those who will be in the program next year can get in touch with me because I have books and notes I would be happy to share. If you have not taken Medical Terminology it would be good if you can take it before you start.. it would be such an advantage. If not, you have to take it and Pharmacology at the same time, with test on the same days and it is tough. I have the spelling lists for Med. Term. and Dr. Bachen mentioned that if we knew anyone who will be in the program next year then give them copies to study so they can be prepared. What is good about this program is that they want everyone to pass but do not give grades. Also I have typed in all the notes for Pharmacology on flashcardexchange.com if you want to get a head start learning the drugs; this is the most important information in this program since dispensing drugs is the major part of a nurses job.
