Does anyone have any information on the nursing program at Northwestern LA University? Their web site claims they are the number one school in the state.

I am a graduate of NSU Class of 1990. I have taken MSN classes the past two semesters. They are having the same problems today that they had 18 years ago when I was an undergrad. Most of their problems are not enough instructors, problems with admissions between Shreveport and Natchitoches which is a big problem. The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. There is little or no communication between Shreveport and the main campus. There are some very good instructors in their program but I think they are need more. They always have problems having enough insturctors and have had several semesters they couldn't come up with enough to hold class. I think they do a good job with those that make it into clinicals but it may be hard to get in.

thanks for the input...i was thinking about going back to NSU if i dont make it into clinicals at LSUE. (i love natchitoches). i've heard mixed reviews about how hard it is to get in, but i didnt know anything about the communication gap and wondered if there might be a problem with that.

I am currently in 4th level clinicals at Northwestern in Shreveport. The main campus for nursing is the Shreveport campus, so you would have a much better chance of getting into clinicals in Shreveport rather than Natch. simply because they take more people in Shreveport. Are you going for your AD or BSN? That also has alot to do with your chances of getting in. Northwestern is overall a very good school. It has its downside, but I'm sure every school does. NSU gets a bad rap because so many people don't get into clinicals, but remember, nothing worth having is easy to get. Good luck in getting into the program. I will be happy to answer any questions that you may have about their nursing program.
