Hello everyone,
It is nice to have a forum specifically for Louisiana Nurses and Nursing Students. I was recently accepted into the Fall 2004 Nursing Program at LSUE. I have completed all other classes required except Microbiology and Micro Lab, which I hope to take next Summer.
I am excited, anxious, and scared all at the same time. My first day of classes is Monday, August 23, 2004.
Have any of you been to or now attending the nursing program at LSUE? I would love to post with other LSUE nursing students over the summer to connect and give/receive support and/or advice.
THANKS,
Penny

Hi Denetra,
You have a beautiful name! It is nice to meet someone from south louisiana. I had a very high GPA, thankfully.
It is really not a "waiting" list per say, but rather they take all applications and line them up according to GPA (and you have to have finished certain pre-requisites), then they pull the top 60.
For this fall they had over 140 applications. That is why LSUE has a reputation for being hard to get into because they always have ALOT of applicants, but only take the top 60, once a year. If you do not get in, you are not put on a waiting list, you have to re-apply the next spring, a whole year later! And because they only take 60 the cut-off GPA is usually pretty high, the lowest GPA that got in the program during the last year or 2 has been around 3.4 from what I have heard.
LPNs are treated differently. If you are already an LPN you still have to take the prerequisites, but you don't compete GPAs with other students. You take a test and test out of the 1st year of the nursing program and go on to the second year.
Good Luck,
Penny

Penny, thank u so much for answering my question. It is also nice to meet u I figured i would probably have to keep reapplying, because i didn't feel my GPA was good enough to compete in a place where they are the only ASN program for 100's of miles (I think the next closes ones are Baton Rouge and alexandria, )so i didn't apply . I am currently classified as Senior at ULL in Sociology, but decided i wanted something different , i know everyone thinks I am crazy. I figured once i get my LPN i could got right to LSUE and take all the pre req. i need .(unless i they allow me to use some of those credits from ULL,) and apply maybe the next following year. I would love to go to ULL and i am sure i could, but it alot more hoops to jump through like u have to work 1 full year as a LPN before applying etc and many more test u have to take to tests out of stuff. so i figure it would take me 2 years after i get my LPN to become a RN at LSUE

Good luck to u too

Anyone know what is involved if you choose to go from being ASN to getting your BSN?

LSUE only offers the ASN RN degree, but I do believe you can transfer from LSUE to UL or LSU (Lafayette or Baton Rouge), and use your credits to continue with your education. Once you have your RN ASN, I'm geussing you could even work and take night classes to finish the required classes to get your BSN. There are online classes also. If I were younger I would think about the BSN, but at 40 I need my degree, my license, and a job!
Good Luck!

Hi my name is Sue. I'm attending LSUE for nursing. I applied for clinicals this semester (spring '05). Now i'm nervously waiting to hear if i was accepted or not accepted. I already have a bachelor's in Apparel Design from ULL so if i do not get accepted i will go on to ULL and work towards my BSN and then hopefully Nurse Practitioner. Anyways, i just wanted to say hello and its nice to have some other LSUE people on here to talk to.

Welcome Sue,
I hope you make it into the nursing program at LSUE. Last spring there were over 140 applicants and the top 60 GPAs were accepted.
Good Luck,
Penny
