Just stumbled on the LA forum, usually hang out in other spots on the MB.
I graduated from LSUE in '92 (acutally got in with a 2.8 GPA)! I went back to USL for my BSN. If you already have your ADN you can challenge many nsg classes. I only had to take one semester of clinicals (psych/community health). I graduated there in 1999, so it may have changed some. Of course, I did have to take plenty of non-nursing courses.

yeah thats what we've been told and i think this year's number of applicants was around that again.
i also talked to a few nursing students who were accepted last year that told me they weren't sure what the lowest GPA was of y'all's bunch but they knew of someone getting in with a 3.2 which gives me hope. i should have a 3.3-3.4 so i'll probably be up for one of those last 10-15 spots out of the 60. Dr. Vidrine,(my fave teacher!), is on the selection committee and he explained all that to me. He said that usually all they have to do for the first 45-50 selected is look at a list of SSN's and GPA's (no names) and take those with the highest that have all of their group I prereq's. Then for the last 10-15 spots, they look at the next highest GPA's with group I prereq's, pull their applications, look at experience, and whatever else that might make one student a better candidate than the other, and make their selection from there.
i really wish that they would interview us. i give really good interviews, lol.

yeah either way, i'm gonna end up back at ULL. if i get my ASN from LSUE, i'll go to ULL after for my BSN, MSN, NP.
and if i dont get into LSUE, i'll go back to ULL and try to get into the excellerated program for people who already have a bachelor's in something else. and then so on for my MSN, NP.
and i'm really excited to hear that they are developing an Adult Psychiatric/Mental Health track for their Nurse Practitioner program because that's what i want to do.

Hate to hear that you didn't get in at LSUE, they only accept 60 students once a year, so it is hard to get in. Also, if you don't make it thru a semester you have to wait a whole year to take that semester again. I didn't hear of a GPA lower than a 3.4 in our class, we started in the fall of 2004. Alot of students apply at LSUE and LSUA (Alexandria) at the same time. In Alexandria they take more students and it is twice a year they accept new students. Good Luck.

I am waiting for an acceptance letter for Charity School of nursing where I will earn an ASN. I have a BS in Management, but decided on a career change. After I finish Charity I will take a bridge program or an RN to BSN program probably online so that I can work at the same time. The University of Phoenix offers a great one. UOP is not a diploma mill (churning out degrees for money) like some may think, actually it's quite challenging. I have met several managers at University Hospital with degrees from there.

a 3.4? Mrs. Debeche told us that the lowest in your class was a 3.2 and the lowest this year was a 3.3, (but not all 3.3's got in and some of the alternates have a 3.2 but they have medical certifications)......either way, i didnt get in, :shrug:

i had looked into applying at LSUA but i thought you had to be enrolled there at the time of application...please if you know different let me know. i was going by what was stated in the LSUA catalog. it might have been an out of date one. i would greatly appreciate any info you could share...i'm trying to take advantage of all of my options.

I am sure your right about the 3.2 if Ms Debeche told you that, I was just going by what I've hear from other students sharing their GPAs and 3.4 was the lowest anyone knew about, but not all students tell their GPA. Some students won't even say what they make on an exam.

And I don't know about being enrolled at LSUA to be able to apply there, all I heard was some students in my pre-requisite classes saying that they were applying at LSUA as well as LSUE, just in case they didn't get in here. If I were you, I definitely wouldn't take the catalogs word for anything. You really should talke to Ms Debeche and whomever is over the Nursing Program at LSUA also. It is always a good idea to get at least 2 "NOs" before you give up on ANYTHING! Three is a good rule of thumb also.

I can't believe I will be in the Upper Level class when I start back in the Fall! It has all went by so quickly. I hope I make it through the next 2 semesters of Nursing Classes. It is so time consuming and stressful.

Monday (June 6), I start Microbiology classes for the summer (Micro and Lab), that I have just not had the time to take before.

Be sure to get ALL of your pre-requisites out of the way, in the nursing program you just don't have time to fit anything else into your schedule. There is ALOT of reading! If you get in at LSUE and get your books ahead of time, let me know and I will give you the first two weeks of reading assignments to give you a head start on them. That way you don't start out already being behind! That is how we all felt last fall - behind before we even got started.

Anyway, good luck, and if I can be of ANY help at all, just let me know. I had an Upper Classman that I could always call up and she would give me the low down on what to expect.

aww thanks penny! thats so sweet!
yeah i know what you mean about people not talking about their GPA's. (i secretly figured out a few people's ID & passwords and peeked at their transcripts....you would not believe how many people lie about their GPA's, lol! i guess they do it to intimidate the competition or something )
oh and by the way, you and i would have been in micro & lab together. i was scheduled to take it this summer too because it was the only pre-req i had left. but since i wasnt accepted, (and because i heard it was hard as hell at LSUE versus a lot easier at OLOL), i dropped micro & lab. so i wont be there in class tomorrow morning, (well actually today, lol)...
i'm going to miss LSUE. i really liked that school. especially Dr. Vidrine

Where you choose to pursue your BSN dictates what exactly has to be done. Everyone seems to be popping up with a program - just make sure of their accredidation before applying. Call around and ask for info packs and select the best one specifically for you. Good luck!
