Is anyone here in the LSU Fast Track program or know anything about it? I called to inquire to see if LSU had any type of program for students that already have a degree. I was told yes, but that you cant apply specifically for the program but have to apply to the nursing program in general and then certain individuals will get selected to the program.

So if anyone is in this program, if you could please tell me about it, how long it is I would appreciate it.

I'm not in the accelerated program, but I Am in the BSN program at LSU. From what I have been told the program is two years, while the regular BSN is three years. Hope this helps.

What does your schedule look like, what hours are you in class usually? 8am-12?

I'm in my last year and my schedule is musch different from my first semester. I have class on monday from 8-10, clinicals on tues. and wed. from 6:30-2:00, sometimes I have clinical on thursday and class on friday from 8-2pm. Your schedule varies depending on what smester you are in.

I was at my dentist office yesterday and talking to my dentist about the nursing program and she mentioned a friend of hers went through the fast track program and by signing a 2 year work agreement, LSU paid for her schooling. Do you know anything about that? I do plan on calling to find out as well. Thank you for your help!

I don't know anything about signing a contract and LSU paying for your schooling. We are not offered any contract in the three year program. I do know that the accelerated program offered by Tulane makes you sign a work aggrement with them.

How do you like LSU's program? A friend of mine, her good friend is in the nursing program, I believe its her junior year. I was talking to her today and she was saying how hard it was and how much work they give you at LSU and from other nursing students she has talked to at other schools, it seems like LSU gives way more work. So how do you like the program?

Yes it's true that nursing school is a lot of work. To be honest I didn't think it would be as difficult as it is. I don't know that much about other programs so I can't say how muh work they give. LSU focuses a lot on the theory part of nursing. No matter what school you go to every nurse I know say that they learned on the job, school only prepared them so much. I do like the program despite all the work and studying, but anything worth having is worth working for. I would not recomend going to nursing school unless you are sure you want to be a nurse. We had about 5 people drop out at the end of our second semester because they decided they didn't want to be a nurse, so they ended up wasting a year of their life. I hope I haven't discouraged you from going to nursing school, I just want to give you the facts. Good luck with whatever decision you make.

No, your not discouraging me at all. I was just surprised at how my friend talked about the school, she sounds kind of miserable. She might be one of those people who didn't think it through enough. She also wants as little patient contact as possible, which confuses me! I definately expect nursing school to be difficult. I applied to Charity for the Spring 06 semester but am now rethinking my options for other schools, mostly because I know I want to eventually get my masters and I might as well get my BSN now. I do have a degree from Tulane alreday. Thanks, you've been really helpful!

You should get your BSN first if you want to get a masters. If you go to charity you will get a associates degree and then you will have to go back for your BSN then your masters. you are better off just getting your BSN first because it will take longer to get your masters if you get an associates degree first.
