That sounds like a novel idea. That way they can set salaries higher than what they are getting now similar to the traveling nurses. The only draw back I see without viewing the site is how benefits will be available. But with the numbers they maybe able to get a health, dental, etc as well as setting up retirement accounts

Nurses in the Acadiana area (Lafayette, LA and surrounding parishes), are trying to create a positive change in nursing. The initial idea was to set up an independent agency. As the group, Acadiana Independent Nurses (AIN) evolved, several other ideas came up.
Right now AIN is planning a big event! A pt care rally. They are planning on getting the community involved and informed of the nursing (healthcare) crisis.
AIN has been watching the CNA closely. By getting the community and politicians involved, hopefully mandated, nurse-pt ratios will be a reality in Louisiana.

Help, suggestions, welcomed!

Thumbs up Independent Nursing Agency

I think the idea of an Independent Agency for Nurses in the Lafayette (and other areas) is great and long in coming. I am an "older" ADN nursing student with a previous business career and a non- nursing bachelor's degree. As I have been researching the various career opportunities in this field and as a business owner, I was wondering why this idea had not taken hold EVERYWHERE.

Although I would have no interest if the AFL/CIO were involved, I would definitely be interested in contributing ideas to your devopment. I used to live in the Lafayette area, and have a son who is a physician there and several other family members in the medical profession in Acadiana.

Good luck and God Bless.

Independence is a great idea but historically industries have welcomed local independent groups of employees. This posture has removed the threat of true power sharing through national affiliation.

Employees and supervisors not mentioned in the NLRB definition of a "Statutory Supervisors" but educated workers with the appearance as supervisors with the absence of power has also been encouraged to form these associations.

Others have formed these groups in the past only to realize the following facts:

1-True power in the workers movement is found in the strength of numbers.

2-Employyee that do not have a voice is what brings any group of people together to make change.

3-Critical thinking that causes change in employers is only won through the use of power and the leverage created from that power.

4-
I hope that the nurses are sucessful in all their endeavors. I believe they are one of the most important group of people in each individuals life at some point and time. There is no question that they are one of the most important components in the administration of health care.
