returning to ccu after long absence

Hi-
This is my first time posting and I need some advice.
After graduating nursing school I went straight to a staff position in CCU and worked there for 2 years. I then started an agency position as well and did some CCU/MICU work. I haven't ever had another staff position. I worked for a total of 4 years and left the field 4 years ago when I got pregnant w/my son. I am really feeling the urge to go back to work because I really miss it and I am getting so anxious thinking I am forgetting everything! (I know I am.) I loved what I did and I was really good at my job. I just feel like I need to prepare myself before going back and have a few questions:

1) Has too much time passed since working in critical care?

2) Since I have only had one staff job I don't really have anyone to write a reference except for my old manager who I am still friendly with; is that a big negative??

3) I have been searching EVERYWHERE for some way to brush up on my hands on skills (the vent, lines, drips) but all I can find are review courses for the CCRN; any advice for how I can brush up my skills without having to sign on for a staff position? Iwould like to do agency again for the flexibility of the hours/schedule but feel the only way I will get brushed up is to take a staff position.

(I tried doing a few days of agency November of 2006 and was WAY uncomfortable w/my skills.)

4) Do CCU/MICU's even hire someone after such a long absence? Is mine really that long of an absence? What should I do for references? I don't know if my hospital would still have my performance and peer reviews (which were always very positive) or if they would let potential employers view them.

HELP!!! I really want to go back to work, but feel like I am stuck in limbo. I contemplated doing office work and legal nurse consulting, but when it comes down to it, I won't be happy unless I am bedside.

Any advice would be much appreciated!!
