This might be a studid question, but what is CCU exactly? What kind of patients do you take care of? And what's the difference between the CVICU.

CCU is generaly a cardiology based intensive care- MIs, CHF, Arrythmias- the primary problem is cardiogenic. Most CVICUs I have heard of are Cardio Vascular SURGICAL ICUS- Post op CABG, AAA resection , Caritoid Endarterectomies, Fem-Pop... Focus is on the surgial revascularization of an area not exclusively cardiac.

In my unit the two are used interchangeably. We deal with both areas that suanna mentioned: cardiogenic illness and pre- and post-op cardiac, thoracic or otherwise vascular surgery.
