Some areas for those of you who are planning on taking the exam to brush up on are hemodynamics, 12 lead ecg as it relates to ischemia, HHNK (had 3 questions), DIC (had 5 questions that mentioned this, brush up on diagnosis and lab values), sepsis, ARDS, trauma related injuries such as pneumo/hemothorax. There was a decent amount of questions regarding nursing practice and judgement which i found very common sense. Honestly, the questions are very logical and if you take time to read each answer choice and use process of elimination, the right answer will be evident. Good luck everyone.

CONGRATULATIONS CCRN!!!!!!

I am soooo sorry to hear that you are home sick with the flu. I am very glad that you posted here. There are many currently in the process of studying and it would be great if you all used each other a little more for support and encouragement (hint, hint). It is uncanny how well the Pass CCRN quizzes predict future success. How soon will it be before you take the exam? How long have you been an ICU nurse? Would love to get to know you more.....

Re: Anyone else studying for CCRN exam?

I have been an ICU Nurse for 13 years. I have attended 3 NTI's and been an AACN member for more than 10 years... but, I have also worked on by BSN degree which I earned in 2005 and worked two jobs for 1 1/2 - my second job was teaching 2nd year ADN students at a community college.... never seemed to have enough study time devoted to the CCRN certification.... I plan to start a Masters Program in June and so hope to have finally completed the CCRN quest by then.... Currently I work in a 12 bed ICU in a Community Hospital.... we have a little of everything except cardiac and neuro interventions.... Most of our patients are pulmonary, cardiac, or surgical... and we have the occasional Swan Ganz.... I work as a clinical coordinator and help make sure that everyone is clinically competent to work in our unit.... Our staff changes constantly.... because some of our staff are married to the military and because our retention strategies are not as good as the incentives offered elsewhere... I am getting off the subject.... I have been in Nursing for 18 years.... How about you?

Oh, I forgot a big part of my life is devoted to our four yorkies and my husband of almost 33 years...he will be 50 on Monday.....
I also have three grown boys... one will be 30 on the 21st, the middle one is 26 and the youngest one is 25

Re: Anyone else studying for CCRN exam?

I'd be interested in obtaining any notes, tips, etc. that anyone has. I just sent the application off today and hope to test within 4 months or so. I ordered the Pass CCRN book off Amazon Market place and the darn thing didn't come with a CD Oh well. Good luck to anyone that is taking the test soon.

Hi deDawntee! Thanks for the warm welcome
I graduated in 2002 and started out on a tele floor, after a year I went to the ER where I stayed until last summer. I made the move to a level 1 teaching hospital SICU (I also work in CICU) because I want to be a CRNA and feel that will give me great experience. I am currently studying for both CCRN & the GRE
I have PASS CCRN both 2nd & 3rd editions, Laura Gasparis CD's and her book. I listen to her cd's religiously and have started doing the pass ccrn questions. I plan to take the exam once I start consistently scoring ~80% on the exams, right now I'm in the 60's. I'll post updates to the thread as my scores improve. I hope to be ready by mid-July.

Red face Re: Anyone else studying for CCRN exam?

Well I just finished a practice test I got 98/150 or 65%. I will review what I missed and focus on my weak areas (cardio). Ha ha, funny cause I worked a tele floor right out of school (I got 27 out 47 on cardio and 13 out of 26 on respiratory).
I plan to take a practice test every other day and do some reviewing on the days I don't test.

Yayyy!! That is soooo awesome that you have committed yourself to the exam!! This will be an incredibly empowering experience. That REALLY sucks that you don't have the CD. I would definitely complain because that CD is one of the most invaluable tools out there for preparing for the exam. Perhaps you know someone you work with who would let you borrow theirs. My copy is being used by someone else as we speak.

Please use this forum for any questions or update us on your progress. Hey you other CCRNers! How is the studying going???!!!

Thanks for finding us!!
