Is 1 year exp. too soon for CCRN?

I am currently working on an open heart unit and I want to get my CCRN as soon as I can. I am planning on starting my preparation soon and I want to take the exam as soon as I have enough hours to sit for it. Does anyone think this is too soon? One I have my CCRN I want to get the CMC and possibly the CSC.

Some of the RNs on my floor tested for their CCRN after one year and passed! I say go for it!

I have worked on an open heart unit for a little over a year and have started studying for it. I say go for it too! Check out the sticky thread for studying tips!

I did the same and passed the first time. I did study over a period of time (6 months) - used tapes (forerunner of the CD) on every walk or run. Go for it! Good luck!

Thanks for the reply! I plan on giving myself about 6 months to prepare as well.

Hi mummer43! 1 year experience is certainly not too soon for CCRN, not only will it help solidify your knowledge it also shows others that you have a commitment to being as competent as possible. Do you have study materials? Do you have a study plan? Come on over to the sticky thread on this forum and join the others who are currently studying for some mutual support!!

Thanks for the reply! Right now, the answer to your questions is no and no, but I am nearing the end of my critical care internship and once that is over, I plan doing both. I will definitely check out the sticky.

Re: Is 1 year exp. too soon for CCRN?

I took and passed my CCRN after only one year. Not only does having my CCRN give me a sense of accomplishment and pride in the work that I do, but studying for the CCRN really drove home what I was learning in my day to day job. Good luck!

Do you recommend someone taking it with less than 1 year of experience? I really want to take it because I feel that the test will help me to understand the reasoning behind my nursing interventions.
