Anyone work here? I've got a friend moving in Ky and I've been looking at perhaps relocating there and working at eith UKMC or the Children's hospital- ideally in the ICU. Any suggestions? Or other hospitals that are around the Patchen Place apartments? (I'm a new RN- just gradated in May and am very unhappy with my ICU job here at home!)

I worked in the OR at UKMC for about three years. I wouldn't hesitate to go back to work there if an opening in my new area of interest (psych nursing) came open. Like most workplaces, there are ups and downs to working there. But the overall atmosphere is great. I've worked at two other hospitals here in Lexington, and UK has the best atmosphere for nursing IMHO.

I work at UK its a great place to work. I guess you can tell by the name I work in the ER, but we interact with all others from the hospital. You should encourage your friend to work here; I know the Childrens Hospital along with the CCU's are a great place :-) As well as the ER.

St. Joseph's in Lexington is a great place to work. I worked the telemetry stepdown and the CTU/CVICU. Also worked at UK but after working both I prefered St. Joe's over the 2 as not as large. Easier going atmosphere and I was permitted much more autonomy compared to UK (being primarily a teaching hospital). Not near the turn over either at least in the units I was in. At UK it was new faces all the time. Central Baptist is another good one also.

Ive worked at UK since last June, and now I'm leaving for Cardinal Hill. Being a teaching hospital, its a very hard environment, and since its one of the biggest hospitals in Kentucky,we get some of the sickest patients in the state. It's a very stressful environment. I was simply not happy here. But the benefits, sheesh, they're second to none.

I went to UK for a year, then came back to my hometown university to go to nursing school. I had planned on going to UK's nursing school, but I get free school back here, so I decided on that.. It's a split on whether or not I made the best choice, but too late now

I plan on going back to UK to get my BSN degree through their RN-BSN program, and hopefully work in one of their ICUs. That's the plan anyway.

My sister used to work for UK Hospital in the Emergency Room. She enjoyed it!
