I started at BHE, in TCU ... YEARS ago.. this was back before we had Vencor/Kindred, so we had vents on TCU on a regular basis. I left for a while, went to Caritas, then came back to BHE, working CCU, then OHRR.

I loved BHE, and would have probably be working there, had I not found a job in a facility closer to home. I can't speak for the ratios, unfortunately.

Where did you do clinicals??

I haven't worked at B. East, but have been a patient/visitor there. They seem to be a very quality hospital, and everybody there said they liked working there (except on the stepdown unit). The ratios are OK at Audubon- the reason the ratios are better at Norton downtown, is that they have these 10 bed pods, which= 5 med/surg patients or 3 TCU pt's each on these units.

Re: surprised at how non active this board is

Many nurses don't have the time to browse these forums and many hate the computer because they chart all day long on the damn things! But for those of us who do seek out interaction with other nurses there are other places you may find them particularly at seminars, NTI, etc.
I work at the VA hospital and although our census is low 16 ICU beds and 8 Sicu beds we have a great place to work. I'm not sure of the pay scale but we have great benefits and if you are a federal emplyee you can move and work anywhere in the US with the original states license. Sooner than later we will have a brand new facility and I'm sure that it will be all that. Good luck...
