Psychiatric/Behavioral Health Nursing?

I am an RN working in an intensive care psychiatric unit and on a LTC geri-psych unit (2 jobs) in MA (looking to move to Georgetown/ Louiseville, KY). What are the opportunities around Louiseville for psychiatric/behavioral health nursing? Any recommended places? thanks in advance for any info

You could try U of L hospital. They have emergency, intensive, and geri-psych units. And they have the best security team in town.

Thanks I looked up their website but they only have info r/t geri-psych on there. Good to know they have an intensive psychiatric unit though.

They also have emergency psych intake there, and are very security conscious. Maybe they don't have any info on the intensive unit for security reasons. That's the only reason I can think of.

Re: Psychiatric/Behavioral Health Nursing?

There are also two free-standing psychiatric hospitals, Central State and Our Lady of Peace. I worked at Central State for a little over a year; quit back in August. It's a state owned hospital but you don't actually work for the state if you work there; you do get state retirement benefit though. I personally think it was an OK place to work as far as... I worked alongside some really fantastic people, RN's, LPN's and MHT's. All patients were adults; no geri-psych and no children. There was one unit for older adults and more medically fragile adults, but it was more older adults with schizophrenia and the like, than your dementia/alzheimer's patients. Anyway... I personally can't in good faith recommend CSH as a good place to work. Benefits, other than the retirement, were pretty cruddy and scheduling was horribly inflexible.

Our Lady Of Peace, though I've never worked there, would probably be more worthy of checking out. It's owned by a private local health system so I'm willing to bet the benefits are better. Plus there is more variety; you have adult psych, geri-psych, children, adolescents, and a brain injury unit.

Good luck, and welcome to KY. =)

I worked at Our Lady of Peace which is now Jewish St Marys and Elizibeth and I LOVED it! I also think that timbroek and maryhurst is hiring if you like teens...lol! The prison in Lagrange...not far from louisville is also hiring. I worked there and it was a great expirience.

Yeah, I forgot about the Ten Broek hospitals; there are two of them. Also, I've heard of Maryhurst.... where and what is it, exactly?

Then if you are interested in working with the mentally handicapped, there's Hazelwood, in the south end.
