I will be interviewing for a job with Norton Healthcare in Louisville on a Med/Surg Floor. This is my first interview (I will graduate in May) Does anyone have any inside info reguarding this hospital. I will also be relocating from Atlanta, GA so info is hard to come by.

Which hospital is it, exactly? Norton Healthcare consists of several hospitals; Norton Hospital, Norton Hospital Suburban, Norton Hospital Southwest, Norton Hospital Audobon, and Kosair Children's Hospital. I've heard the best things about Audobon and Kosair's, and have heard not-so-great stories about the care given at Suburban and the main Norton's. Southwest hospital has a lot of financial difficulty due to low patient census.

Kosair Children's has an excellent reputation. Audubon is a great place to work. Suburban is okay, but I like Audubon better. Southwest is in a state of transition, they have closed their surgery and SNU units in the past month. I have an ex in-law who worked at Norton's downtown and their spin off site, Norton Medical Pavillion and she's been there over twenty five years, and the last I talked to her (last August) she was still enjoying it.

What things should I specifically inquire about to find out about the "environment" (whether people enjoy it or not) of the hospital.

Hi Bobbi,
I work at Nortons Main campus on one of the Med/Surg units. There are basically 4 ten bed units set up in a "Pod" fashion. If you work days there will be one RN, one LPN and one Aide. If you work nights there will be 1 RN, 1 LPN no aide. 5 patients each, It's really not a bad assignment. I would be happy to answer any "environment" questions you have. Feel free to PM me.

I'm always interested to hear what type of nursing teams other hospitals have on their units. On my med-surge floor here at Frankfort, we have RN's and aides, and that's it. The RN typically has 7-9 patients at night (when I work), and aides at night have around 10-12. The aides take vitals signs, ambulate patients, help with toileting and bathing. We have no LPN's on the floors but we have them in the ER, and probably some in the OR.

I am also interested in Norton, specifically Norton Suburban. Anyone know what new grad pay is, for an LPN and an RN?
