I'm getting close to completing my prereqs and I know that getting into my first choice school (Baker U.)is next to impossible (they accept roughly 30-45 out of, say, 500). I am going to apply to my other second and third choices (KU and WU) and they statistics are about the same. I am curious as to how long all of you had to wait before being accepted to your schools. I thought it a good idea to put my pursuit of nursing on hold until I had my children and now I think that was a mistake (the waiting, not the children ) given the difficulty in getting into a program due to the massive amount of people wanting in also.

mrsGMC- Is the waiting list to get into Baker really that big? Baker is the ONLY school that I am wanting to attend. (I had a REALLY bad, BAD experience with Washburn`s Nursing program ) I still have 9 classes that I have to take before I can apply. So, that makes me nervous if I have to wait forever especially since my employer has agreed to pay for nursing school!

I went to Baker's open house on Thursday. I asked not only the faculty, but the students also, the question of how long they had heard of someone having to wait. They said only a couple of semesters (provided they had the grades and did well in the interview). The faculty also said that this spring's class (they admit NO MORE than 40 as they like to keep the ratio intimate) already had over
120 applicants. Plus, (I found this really informative) this fall's class average GPA was 3.57.

I with you. Baker has been my dream for a long time. I can't bear to think of attending elsewhere.

Freeking out I actually e-mailed one of the admissions people and I was told the same information that you just posted. I know that there will be pretty much NO way that I`ll get into Baker my first time to apply. I can only hope that I`ll not have to wait to many semesters to get in or I`ll have to start looking elsewhere.

My sister-in-law attended Baker (class of '96) and even then (before the shortage), she had to wait two semesters. She's now been an RN for 8 years. I can handle having to wait 2-3 semesters. The students and faculty said that is about the average for someone who's been wait-listed. Just keep your grades as high as you possibly can -- then if you're wait-listed it will be a matter of space as opposed to a low GPA. They have their open-houses about once per semester. I fully plan on going each and every time to keep my motivation going (yunno, my "mental connection" with the school) and to continue talking to the students, as they will have different "ambassadors" each time. If you didn't get an invitation this time, call them and ask that you be put on the mailing list because you would like to attend. Honestly, it was really fantastic. I had a bounce in my step all day!
