Labette County Medical Center's trustees are exploring a management change involving Kansas' largest health system, Via Christi Health System in Wichita.
Later this month, trustees are expected to sign a letter of intent with Via Christi that would allow both entities to investigate a proposed lease-like hospital management agreement.
The letter is non-binding, Trustee President Vince Schibi said. Schibi's announcement followed a one-hour closed session Thursday night, during which trustees visited with attorney Jeff Ellis.
"This is not an attempt to sell the hospital," Schibi said.
The hospital would still be owned by the county, but trustees have the authority to enter into a management agreement.
