Re: kckcc any positive feedback???

I am graduating from there this month. This is a very hard school. You have to jump through hoops, suck it up, keep your mouth shut and keep going. I will be a better nurse because of it.
Nursing is not for the average person so you have to expect to do more than the average to make it through. Just make sure this is what you want to do because it could break you. If it is, study hard and you'll make it.
FYI...after I got into the program I started understanding how some of the schools work. I think it would have been better for me to go to a 4 year university for my BSN because you get a full semester for a class instead of 8 weeks.
Good luck in what ever you do!!

Re: kckcc any positive feedback???

One of my wife's good friends relocated to KC after Katrina and did the ADN program at KCKCC. I spoke with her frequently about the program and her clinical skills seem quite competent. She did mention that she did have an amazing amount of busy work compared to my accelerated BSN program - I had one supervisor that let me do Ackley's Care Plan generator online and tailor it with specific patient information, while she was forced to do them by hand ad naseum.

Overall, I think she would recommend the program.

Re: kckcc any positive feedback???

I heard some negative things about KCKCC's nursing program, but as far as the pre-reqs, it's a good school. I know three people that didn't pass and were kicked out of the nursing program. I am taking pre-reqs there but will go somewhere else for the nursing program.

Have you decided which school you would prefer going to after you complete your pre-req? I completed 90% of my classes at JCCC and the remainder at KCKCC. I received my associate degree in science with emphasis in pre-nursing from KCKCC.

Yeap, I'm going to Research College of Nursing in KC, MO. I'm almost done with my pre-reqs too. I will start at Research in January 09.

Re: kckcc any positive feedback???

I graduated ADN/RN from KCKCC.
We did more clinical hours than a BSN program.
It's the only program I, or any other nurse I know, where they don't allow you to view or correct your scantrons (the form that you fill in the circles for test answers.
Some have been outright refused when they have demanded to see their scantrons as proof of grade.
Some have actually had to hire an attorney after they were erroneously told that they flunked, and the scantron had to be presented and proved otherwise.

I heard from friends in Kansas, and all over the country, that they are given the test form, their scantron, a blank sheet of paper and a red pen. There are instructors stationed on each side, front and back, and all purses, bookbags, etc are against the outlying wall.

In a program where you can be flunked by 1 point, they stole a lot of points from the students who are in this program.

If you go through this program, be prepared to track your own quiz points,,,I've had no less than 5 quiz points alone magically disappear by the end of the semester.
That makes a helluva a lot of difference when points count for your scholarship(s).

They could care less!
The KCKCC program is tough, and you get more respect if you make it through, but be thoroughly prepared!

Re: kckcc any positive feedback???

How on earth can the school and staff justify this?

I would think that students have some kind of right to see their scantron.

Is it a practice of all instructors in the nursing program?
