I'm from the Waterloo area, and hoping to get a CNA job in a hospital. I already work in a LTCF and I love my job, but it's not what I want to do long-term, so I want to get into a hospital job early on.

I know that this maybe isn't a CNA forum, but I am a nursing student and figured those who are experienced would maybe have some ideas. What's the best way to get into a hospital? Should I get phlebotomy training? My ideal department would be L&D but if I had to float I wouldn't complain. I'm just frustrated with my current job because a lot of it isn't too medical -- dressing, bathing, feed, changing residents when I could be doing actual procedural work or close to it.

I would love to work at Covenant. Anyone have any advice?

Covenant is a good organization to work for. As a hospital CNA you will still be doing much of the same tasks however they will be geared toward restoration, not merely maintaining. I would suggest going to the website and filling out an application. I am sure they would love to talk with you.

Do you or have you worked at Covenant? I'd love to hear what it's like, if you have!

I'm thinking about filling one out right now -- there aren't very many positions open for 2nd shift CNAs, but it certainly can't hurt to apply, I've learned that.

I did work for Covenant, however not on the floor. I worked in the clinic.

I've been at Covenant as a nursing instructor and thought the people and facility were great. I'd work there if I didn't live in cedar rapids- too far to commute in February weather!

I was a waterloo resident until recently, and I did all my clinical work at Covenant Hospital and I loved it! I think its an excellent hospital to work for and best luck to you!
