Greetings from a newbie as well

Hello to everyone.
I am a RN from NW Iowa. I have acute care experience but my area of expertise is LTC(x 15 years.) That is where I began and is what I drift back to and feel most at home. I am currently a unit mgr. in a SCF. I am also a certified legal nurse consultant. I live on a farm, have 2 children, 16 and 20- and we all manage to keep busy. I am brand spanking new to this site. I am looking forward to navigating and learning with all of you. Drop a line if you wish. Nice to assocaite with all of you!

Hi Zigs,
This is my first time posting too. I have spent quite a bit of time lurking and reading the posts here ever since one of my professors gave us an assignment to look at nursing sites...this was one of her choices.

I am a first year nursing student at DMACC in Ankeny. I should be able to go for the LPN boards in late spring and then the RN boards the year after.

Biggest problem I have is.....I want to spend all my time reading the posts here and ignore my studies...LOL

Dear debbylynn13
I am glad to hear you are pursuing your nursing degree. I just read an article that said that by 2020 thee will be a need for at least 250,000 more nurses that they have no idea how they will produce. In other words it sounds like the nursing shortage is here to stay for awhile. Job security. Yeah- I know what you mean by wanting to read all the posts- it can take time and the time seems to fly. Well good luck to you and stay in touch. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Hi Tanz,
Glad to see another face on here. So where are you taking your pre-reqs and ADN?

I am going the ADN route too, basically because of my age and money constraints. I have considered going on to Iowa after I graduate and get my BSN slowwwwwwwwww ly....LOL

I'm not sure if you know this or not, but I just wanted to let you in on this. U of Iowa has a 1 year, 1 day per week RN to BSN program. I thought I would let you know since you said that you were going to pursue slowly. I'm planning on looking into it myself.
