Admissions process for SON’s Sioux City, IA

Through a Google search, I found that the nursing schools in this area include Briar Cliff, St. Lukes, Mercy, Morningside, W. IA Tech, and NECC. Am I missing any? What are the application procedures/ deadlines? I live in Omaha, NE, but may be moving to Sioux City, IA.

Thanks!!

Do they operate on waiting lists, lottery, or a point system?

Re: Admissions process for SON’s Sioux City, IA

Hi, I can only speak to the nursing program at WIT, as I'm currently on track to graduate next month in the ADN program (RN). There are entrance tests (general stuff like math/English, etc.) that you have to score a certain percentage on before you are accepted into the program. The LPN and RN programs have different criteria for acceptance. I was immediately placed on a waiting list, but that was ok since I wanted to get the pre-reqs out of the way. I ended up in the hybrid program, where I do my lectures online. I was a little frightened about that at first, but the waiting list for the LPN program was longer than I was willing to wait. After 2 sems of pre-reqs, I did the LPN program (2 semesters), took boards plus summer school, then went into the RN program. I would recommend online learning for anyone who is highly motivated. Plus, I have to work full-time and have 3 kids, so it would have been impossible to go to class several times a week.

My recommendation to you would be to come to Sioux City and spend a day checking out the different programs in town. I chose WIT mainly because they were the most affordable. There are a few things I wish they would do differently, but for the most part, I cannot say enough good things about my experience.

Good luck in your future endeavors!
