I am applying to the Muncie ASN program this April. I took my TEAS today and only got a 78.2%. I did extremely well in English and Reading. I was in the 90th percentile. The Math and Science is what really brought me down. I only scored 66.7% on each. I am going to take it again in March before applying and am wondering how high I need to score to improve my chances of getting in. I have all A's on my pre-reqs.
I am also wondering about the program mean that is given with the scores. It says the program mean is 75.2%. This seems like an awfully low score to have and still get into the program. Any ideas on this??

I studied the ATI testing book from front to back. I really thought I had it down, but I found that the science and math questions were NOT comparable to the ones in the book. I'm so discouraged right now.

The program mean changes at every intake of students. Which means........they base their scores of the average of every "group" of students collectively that apply.
This springs group would not have the same mean average as perhaps the falls.
As far as the TEAS goes, try and get as high as you can. Over 80 is a much better score than below 80.

The program mean score refers to the program type you are applying for (ASN). So that's the national average from a select group of students applying to associate degree programs. If you have time I would definitely recommend re-taking the test. I go to Ivy Tech Gary and and am retaking mine (89.4) the first time. I just know how competitive Ivy Tech is and would kick myself if I missed getting in by 1 or 2 points because I didn't give it another try. It can't hurt you as Ivy Tech takes your highest score. Just be sure to go through the math portion in the ATI manual. Make sure you know how to figure out proportions, percentages, metric conversions, and basic algebra. I have also bought the Kaplan Nursing Entrance Exams 2nd Edition ($20 at Borders) for the science portion. It covers way more physical/chemical science than the ATI. I did poorly on the science as well and feel that the ATI guide was nothing similar (in science) to what was on my test. Don't be discouraged, you'll do better the second time around because you will know what to expect. I was a nervous wreck taking mine and feel much more calm preparing for the next one in 2 weeks. Sorry to disagree with you.............the mean average is from EACH particular school according to EACH group of students that apply for EACH program.
This years mean average score for instance on the ASN students at Muncie, Bloomington or Columbus does NOT reflect any other Ivy Tech, nor will it reflect the next admission mean average scores. They are their own entity and connected with each other in name only. Each school has it's own according to the candidates scores. It is not a National Average.

PS: The numbers quoted on the TEAS( MEAN: National/Program) results mean nothing!
That is just how well you did with others in the state on the test but does NOT have anything to do with each Ivy Techs mean average scores for the group of candiates. They set their own mean averages once they add up all the applicants scores and get the mean ( average)

I am getting my info from my ATI score explanation sheet. For group mean-program it states "the average of all adjusted group scores of your nursing program type (within a specified sample from the ATI data pool) for this assessment." The individual mean-program is "based on adjusted individual student scores from your program type. The program type they are referring to is ASN if you go to Ivy Tech. It has nothing to do with each individual Ivy Tech, rather a sample pool from all associate degree students that took the same assessment. They aren't going to tell you how you did compared to others at your school. They are instead informing you on how you did compared to their data set of other ASN students nationally. The mean-national is all program types (ASN, BSN).

If you look on your score sheet it will say program type and have ADN next to it. That is what they are referring to in the program-mean score, not institution. Mine has the same 75.2 for program, that's our national average, not for your campus. Hope that clears it up for ya. I had to thoroughly read the explanation before I understood.

Thats why I explained it means nothing when applying to Ivy Techs or any other school. Its just like you and I stated. its a nationional average and has nothing to do with the mean score of each individual school.

Hello there,

Are you applying for the straight through(traditional) RN? Or are you already an LPN, applying for the transitional program? That usually makes a big difference in what scores are acceptable. I just applied for the transitional program. I should find out if I got in by the end of Feb. I had an %82 on the TEAS, 2 A's and 2 B's. So I will deff. let you know. This is for the Muncie program. Which are you applying for?

I'm applying for the RN program. I took my TEAS again today and got an 86%. I have all A's in my pre-reqs and am still scared out of my mind!
