Hello,

My husband and I are considering a move to Indianapolis from Northwest Indiana. I have been to Indy several times and really enjoy the area and we know some people that live in Fishers that rave about the school system and recreational programs for their kids. Any thoughts on hospitals in the area? I will probably be looking for a flexible schedule when we move since my husband's will not be and I will have to work around him. I have been a nurse for 6 years with Tele, ED, and Nursery experience. I'm curious about pay rates and benefits etc. Any info would be appreciated.

Im a new nursing student starting Marian College clinicals for the ASN program in 3 days. I have friends that work for community hospitals. they work at the south campus in greenwood, but they have a Communiy Hospital on the north side. 82nd and shadeland. kinda close to fishers. just off of 69 and 82 street. they say the pay is really good through community hopital. Hope this helps. thats where Im applying after my first semester of clinicals.

I live in NWI, but worked 3 years in Indy. Tell me what specfic area of nursing do you want to work? I worked different areas at Community, Riley, St. Vincent, Methodist. The pay is generally the same, slightly different. When I worked there 2000-2003.

Thanks for the info. I previously worked in a cardiac step-down unit, ED, and I am now in nursery (both regular and special care). I do miss the adult side of things although my nursery job is much less stressful! The ideal, if there is such a thing would be a unit that would let me self-schedule or allowing me to work registry in an area. I plan on going back full-time once my little guy is in school. I have heard good things from a couple of people that have come up here to work about Community down there. Let me know any thoughts.....

I worked @ The Indiana Heart Hospital (which is affiliated with Community Health Network) and liked it - The MICU nurses are great there and they recently got some new management - TIHH is right by Fishers too - but beware of the traffic up by Fishers - it is getting really congested to come down I-69 or Allisonville Rd in the AM.

If NICU is what you are looking for, I would often float to NICU since I worked peds there and we had low census. It was mainly feeders and growers. If you want higher acuity look Riley or St. V's.

Community was good to work for, didn't pay as high, but decent sign on bonus, I think I got a $2000.

I work in the ED @ St. Vincent's on 86th St. and I love it!
We have self-scheduling with requirements for every third weekend (Friday Saturday for nocs and Saturday Sunday for days). We also have to work a certain combination of Sunday/Mondays (our crazy days!)
We also have a float pool that make about $10 more an hour but do not earn PTO or receive benefits. Hope this helps =)

Thanks for the info. That is very helpful. Every 3rd weekend sounds nice! Do you like the ED you work in? We were very busy up here but we did have techs and transporters (usually) to help. They drew labs, did EKG's and did post-molds which helped out greatly.
