Any suggestions? I am taking it this summer at Ivy Tech!

OB/Peds was not my cup of tea (no offense to anyone,it just isn't a good fit for me). I took it a couple of years ago, what made it for me was having a great instructor. SHe really wanted to teach and understood that it is an area that is not for everyone. I will say I learned. She challenged me and I took her up on it.

Go into it with an open mind, you may be suprised what you learn. I understand your hesitation, but trust me, it isn't anything to be afraid of. Look at it as one more step you have to take in your journey to become a nurse.

I am taking it in the fall. Not looking forward to it either! I have heard some horror stories. I wish there were some choice in the faculty so I could avoid the problems, but we only have one choice here.

Our program does it in half a semester. One half of the students take it the first eight weeks, the other half the last eight weeks. Here, a third of the students in the first half flunked out. I understand things are a little better now now that people have been given "space," but I am sure people will return to their usual behavior soon enough. I really wish people would act professional and not vindictive, but I have learned that no matter where you go and no matter how well educated people are, someone has to act like we are in elementary school.

It's a really a shame, because I am really interested in the subject matter.

Make the best of every situation or class! Regarding rumors, the best way to approach them is to go in with an open mind. You never know what to expect. Who knows what the truth is to them anyway? We all have horror stories of what we didn't like, who we didn't like, etc. I heard many students are doing well right now, with A's and B's in OB/Peds....anyone else hear that?

I would love to approach things with an open mind, but I have experienced them myself. I also thought I was going to a state school, but I have to listen to a religious lecture everyday. Regardless of my personal beliefs on the subject, I don't want to hear a lecture in the middle of class about what a horrible person I am if I have an abortion or be told that the best birth control is "a nickel between the knees." This of course, is punctuated by repeated admonitions to not "judge the patient." Geesh.

I am at Ivy too. I am taking PEDS this summer also. I hear the professor makes it hard. No use in whining or crying about it. Be tough and stay focused. You will make it.

You are right, Trauma. No use crying or whining. Already know all about that. They should put that on a T-shirt. That would be an interesting class.

Yikes! You've heard that in class about what a horrible person you'd be if you had an abortion? You're right....no one should be judgmental. Our personal beliefs should be respected.
