I'm a nursing student, I graduate in 9 weeks. I live in NW Indiana but go to school in IL. I always planned on just getting an IL license bc RN's in IL make more. However, I want to make myself more marketable and am now wanting to be licensed in both states. I'm not sure how I go about doing it though. An RN I shadowed yesterday in clinical has IL/IN licenses and told me all I have to do is send in money to get my IN license.

Who would I send the money to? Don't I have to take an exam or something? Can I work license pending in IN like I can in IL?? Do I have to wait until I receive my IL license? I have a lot of questions!! If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it!!! Feel free to PM me also

Hi! I can't answer all of your questions, but I'll tell you what I did.
I lived in NE Indiana when I graduated from nursing school. Took my NCLEX in Indiana, got my Indiana license, then just applied via the Ohio Board of Nursing for my Ohio license. Just had to pay their fees and show proof of my Indiana license, basically. I still carry licensure in both states.

I took my NCLEX in Indiana, got my Indiana license, then applied to KY just had to show proof of IN license, some paperwork and money. I am sure it is the same in IL/IN.
Get your license in IL, then apply to the IN BON.

You can't work until the paperwork has been processed, but then the facility can call and find out when, and will let you work until your paper license arrives.

Me and you are in the same boat I live in nw indiana also and want both In and Ill license. My teacher told me earlier this week that she would advise me to take indiana first since I would be working in Ind. Then, after 6 months I could just pay a fee to get ILL no extra tests. Hopefully this is right cause I graduate in 3 months.
