Question Best places to work as a CNA in Indy?

Hello all! I'm looking for some advice. I'm currently in clinicals for my CNA cert. and already looking forward to finding a job. Can anyone recommend a place where you've had a good experience? I would like to go on to nursing school after getting through pre-req's. I think I would prefer a hospital (I'm a former EMT), but would be open to LTC.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
Thanks!

Re: Best places to work as a CNA in Indy?

Hospitals would be great, but I know from experience it was hard to get hired on in the hospitals as a CNA.

There are a couple of LTACS in the area (Kindred and Select) that would be a great experience for anyone prior to NS. More complex pts than LTC.

Hope this helps?

Lori, I've heard bad things about Kindred. Are they true? I've heard that they are horribly understaffed and the facility is dirty. I don't want to go anywhere where no one cares if someone lays in their urine for 8 hours and no one will help each other out.

I'm looking for another job, preferably hospital but even with over 6 years experience as an aide in med surg and ICU I can't get call backs - excellent references btw.

Beth...

I can only speak about the new Kindred in South Indy/Greenwood. It is beautiful, brand new, opened in December. The staff there is excellent, they have more than doubled their beds, so yes, there are times it runs short but no worse than any other facility.

PM me if you want more details, I know they would love to have you come check it out before you decide.

Thanks Lori!

I have my resume and cover letter ready and I might stop in. What you described isn't what I remembered.

Have you thought of homecare? It is also an option. It usually pays better that LTC. Plus you make your own schedule. I work for a homecare agency.

Pie,

Where are you getting certified? I am interested in becoming a CNA while in school.

Thanks

I'm signed up for Ivy Tech's summer CNA prep course at the Lawrence campus. Has anyone done it there?
