I am having trouble completing the IL examination application form. Is it preferrable to complete the online or paper application??? Which one will get my app. processed faster? It is a very long application.

And do i have to be graduated to apply for examination?
Many of my classmates here in Hawaii have already applied for the examination although we won't be graduating 'til may 18.

Do I still have to complete a transcript request in my school although the ED-NUR form will be given/signed by our director of nursing?

Any response will be greatly appreciated... muchos graciassss

I can only tell you about my experience, which isn't very reassuring, but at least knowledge can put your mind at peace.

My school required that all students in my cohort turned in their paper application to the academic affairs office last month, well before graduation. We were told that our applications would be sent to the IL Board of Nursing in Springfield along with our transcripts when our final grades become available (whenever that is....)

Then we were told that we should be hearing from the IL BON 3-6 weeks after the date that our applications were sent. For being a progressive state with a major city that has so many good nursing schools, the IL BON is pretty slow and archaic.

The good news is that the NCSBN Examination (NCLEX people) are based in Chicago, so you should be able to get a good testing date in Chicago when you finally do get your ATT.

Essentially, my cohort was told that we essentially would not be getting our licenses until sometime in July at the earliest. I wish I had better news to report.

romie, did you already pay the $200.00 exam fee with NCSBN? or do you wait until you receive your ATT? thank you...

We (my cohorts) were strongly encouraged to register with Pearson Vue at www.pearsonvue.com/nclex to register and pay BEFORE we graduated. I went ahead and prepaid and got my little email reciept of payment from Pearson Vue but one cannot actually schedule an exam until you get your ATTfrom the BON. There are some additional instructions that should come with your ATT and on the Pearson Vue website about how to go about scheduling an exam date and time.

If you can, I'd go ahead an pay the 200 now--one less thing to worry about when the time comes.

well I graduated from hawaii too..last dec 07...and applied to IL state for my license...did my NCLEX-RN here chicago and passed...so its easy just fill out the application form, notify your nursing school to send your transcript, using the ED-form, you need to request for the finger printing card by calling the number on the forms also...i mean everything you need to aid you in applying for IL license is right at their website... and mail it in via express/speed post that will make your application more fater to process than the regular mail...then go to pearson website and create an account and pay 200 dollars and wait for your ATT..mine took only 3weeks...when IL BON approved my application and got my ATT few days later via email ( came to my junk mails..so check your junk mails regularly)...so i hope this is helpful....by the way i graduated from HPU hawaii.

okay, im kinda interested to see that someone else besides myself finds the Illinois nursing app. a bit confusing. I am coming from Ohio, and I think that the Ohio one is a lot easier. Luckily, I know some folks that also came from Ohio and have given me advice for this. I am only part way through the process. I just sent in my fingerprint card to the electronic vendor, and am waiting from Kent State to release my records (ED-NUR) to me. I am hoping all of this will smooth over so that I can have my NCLEX done by July.

The Hawaii BON application is wayyyy simpler too. It's only 2 pages!!! Anyway, I turned in everything about two weeks ago so right now, I'm just waiting for my ATT. My classmates who all applied to Hawaii BON already received their ATTs. I'm worried that it's taking quite a while, but I read that it takes a minimum of 3 weeks in IL?

I went to school in ks and applied to TX BON. I took 2-3 weeks longer for me to get my ATT than my classmates. I think it is worth the trouble to get it in the state were you are going to work rather than go through the hassle of trying to transfer the license. Just my 2 cents. Good Luck!
