IL Nurse Practice Act 2007

I have just enterred the MSN program online at Independence University. First course: Management in the Healthcare Setting. I have to write a strategic plan for a business or program of my choosing. I am looking for information on requirements and restrictions on advance practice nurses in IL. Any help on references would be appreciated.

Re: IL Nurse Practice Act 2007

Hi there and welcome. The biggie with the new nurse practice act for APNs is the schedule II prescriptive authority. If you are going to be an APN, the IL Society of Advanced Practice Nurse's might be the place to start:

Good luck - if I can help with specific questions, just let me know...I practice in central IL.

Re: IL Nurse Practice Act 2007

Do you know if an APN could set up an independent practice in Illinois or must they practice under the supervision of a physician. The premise of my paper is an independent diabetes education clinic in which the APN would be the primary caregiver.

IL does not allow for independent APN practice - you must have a collaborating physician.
