Hey fellow Nurses,

I am considering a job in the ER deptment @ Wilcox memorial hospital. I have never been to this island. So I would like some input from others mostly about the island. Be honest good or bad!!!

Take it! Kauai is one of the most beautiful places on earth. MANY movies are filmed here because it's sooo pretty. The people are very down-to-earth and friendly. Technically, the strike is still on, but they're at an impasse and the only ones who don't know it's over are the dozen or so nurses still striking. Hawaii is a little more expensive place to live, but worth it if you like outdoor sports and activities. And beaches! :-)

Try educating yourself on what is really going on---check out the articles and especially the "letters to the editor" sections, scanning back over the last few months:

No car needed!!! They have great train and bus systems on Kauai!!!!

Thanks so much for the information...... thats awesome!!!!! The nurse manager that I had the interview with said that it would a very good idea if I had a car. And I really do not think thats possible, especially if I 'd only be there for 6 months.

I would rethink this whole plan if I were you. You really should look @ the Hawaii BON site about the strike, and check out the Kaua'i newspaper as well, before jumping into that situation. JMHO.

You'll need a car. That's because those that cross the picket line have to drive out to a secret location and then get bussed into the hospital. I know lots of people from the ER. Will you be staying at the Pole house? Even though it's right behind the hospital, you won't want to walk into work. If you are staying anywhere else, then you will need a car.

Or...um...I mean, like Windward said-just use the local transportation system! Good luck.....
