Hi, I just moved to Georgia from the Midwest and have begun my prereq's at GPC. I have an undergraduate degree (BA), so I don't have to do as many prereq's as most, and I will be completely finished with all of my General Education Requirements by Fall, 2008. I'm taking A&P I this semester and am aiming for Straight A's (Hopefully). I take the NET Test next Saturday and I feel prepared (as long as there are no surprises--I've studied the Study Guide available from the makers of the NET test). I'm applying to GPC for the Fall, 2008 semester. In my transfer classes, I have over a 3.0 GPA (chemistry, math, english, psych, and the humanities). However, my issue is that I began doing prereq's for another program at another school in the Midwest and dropped some courses. I'm concerned that GPC will not accept me (even though my grades at the other school were great) because of my dropped courses (1 each term for 3 terms- and I wasn't taking a full load). Although I'll hopefully do very well on the NET test and have a great GPA, I'm concerned they'll be prone to looking at my prior classes and history of dropping courses. This is the first time I've taken a full courseload since completing my BA in '01. I hope they don't think I can't commit to something, and I hope that my transfer credits and this semester will be enough to prove to them that I am a serious student. Any thoughts? Or am I just completely paranoid....

Hey Marissa-

I am currently a Nursing student at GPC. It is hard to get in and it is very competitive for many reasons...it is a cheap school, it is local with many campuses to choose from, and you can get through the program fast. It took me awhile to get in. I even had to take the NET twice! They will compare alot of stuff with the applicants. Your overall GPA, your science GPA, etc. My advice to you would be to study study study for the NET and pass it! I dont remember if you said which campus you go to but find out where the nursing office is and go talk to the admission specialists. Just let them look at your transcript so they can tell you honestly where you may stand. Keep your face around that office even if it is just to say hi. They will tell you what you need to do if anything better to improve your chances.
Dont give up and stay on top of things.

Thanks for your help! Just out of curiosity, what were your NET scores and GPA?

I think you're being paranoid. They get so many applications they're not having time to look at your dropping history. I think they only look at gpa, science gpa and net score. I graduated from gpc last year and had not great grades or gpa. My net score is what got me in and i only studied that study guide you're talking about.

I am also a current student at GPC in my 2nd year. I suggest that you take a look at the website: http://www.gpc.edu/~gpcnurs/ and the specific area for what they are looking for as far as admissions: http://www.gpc.edu/~gpcnurs/admprocedurest.htm and also take the advice of another student and go by the location and speak with admissions in the nursing building. Please don't get discouraged. Nursing school is very competitive at this time (at any school), but you have made the first right move by studying for the NET. My NET score was 84% composite, but that really is not the only thing that they look at. It is always best to ask the people who are in charge of the admissions. You were asking about my GPA and NET. I honestly dont remember what my final NET score was. I think I was just so excited to pass ya know?!!! My overal GPA was not great, it was like 2.9 I think. (It was from some OLD bad grades) My science GPA was great - 3.7. If I had to guess what got me into school-it was that science GPA hahahaa!

Check out the websites that the other student posted for some good information. When I applied and was waiting for a response from the Nursing people, I was so nervous. I emailed the interm-president of Nursing and the admissions specialist just begging for the opportunity to be put in the program. Whatever it was the begging or the science GPA, it got me in!

hello fellow gpc students I also am trying to get in and I wanted to know for the net is there anything online to study from for free or do you have to buy that book from the company? anyone know how much it costs? or is selling one?

The only thing I did to study for the NET was to purchase their study guide book online. I dont have mine anymore...must have burned it hahahaha I really went through it and really studied hard for it. I dont remember the website right off. Go to the GPC website www.gpc.edu and look at the Nursing Dept page. It should give you info about where to get it. I did not use any other sources for studying. Good luck to you
