You will find most hospitals here start new grads between $20-22 base before diffs. I hear that Emory is one of the lower paying but they make up for it in benes. I've heard they start their new grads between $18-19. Not sure bout the parking situation either. You may pay for it. You may not. EUH is on campus so it's beautiful. But ECLH is a dangerous n'hood.

I did clinicals both at EUH and Crawford, and as a student nurse, it was great. I didn't see very many happy nurses in EUH, but maternity nurses at Crawford were always happy. Perhaps this is the diff between medsurg and maternity?

On the other end, my family had to be pts at EUH, and they marveled at the care they received and said it was a fantastic place to be a pt.

I guess it's a try it you might like it scenario?

Re: Is Emory A Good Hospital?

Hey there - Chloe is a bit off. I started at Emory in August of 06 and THEN they were starting new grads at $21.20. The pay at all metro atlanta hospitals is about the same for new grads. When I was interviewing back then Piedmont was $20.99 and St. Joes was $21.35.

You do have to pay for parking (deducted thru your paycheck) at CLH and Emory. I guess it's a matter of opinion and what you're used to but CL is not a dangerous area, it's in Midtown. Good luck!

Re: Is Emory A Good Hospital?

Do any of the Emory Hospitals have an acute psych unit? Not the boring gero-psych but regular adult-psych?

As I wrote in my earlier post, pay is between $20-22 and you may have to pay for parking. Not sure where I am "a bit off"

P.S. AFter living here for 10 years, I can say w/ certain knowledge that Emory Crawford Long is considered downtown. It's just off the highway, and although the Fox Theatre is nearby as well as some terrific eateries, it's still a questionable area and when I did my clinicals there, we had to park in a creepy dark unpatrolled lot surrounded by barbed wire and cut across highways just to enter the building.

Not an area I'd like to be sauntering around in after dark. But hey, to each his/her own.

It's still a fantastic facility to learn in!

The geri-psych at Emory gets pretty interesting. There is a cognitive and acute inpatient unit at Wesley Woods. There is also an acute psych unit at the institute for rehabilitation medicine. I think there are a couple of other non acute units scattered around.

Chloe - The "bit off" refers to you stating Emory started new grads at $18-$19.
