I'm a new RN graduate and I have applied to a number of Atlanta hospitals but have not had any positive leads. I will be taking the NCLEX in July. Let me know if anyone knows of any hospitals hiring people like me. Gwinnett Medical Center's RN Residency program is already closed until next year.
If you want to go into pediatrics check out Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. If you want to go into L&D check with Northside Hospital the Atlanta location is always hiring. It's the baby factory of Georgia!! Good luck to you!!
Have you applied online or in person? I found that applying for jobs in person was the best way to get in for an interview as opposed to the online route.
I know for a fact that WellStar is hiring. If you need help getting into that system let me know since I work for them.
Thank you both, NurseBunky and Yellow Finch for the info in response to my inquiry. I will definitely try contacting the hospitals in person or via phone. I will check to see far my commute to wellstar is and give them a try. I really want to do L&D and I live just around the corner from Northside.
Not to be discouraging, but I've been in communication with another nurse here about the L&D new grad program and she recently found out that they're full until next year.
Im a new grad too and I am having a hard time finding a hospital with any openings...I cant get anyone to call me back...Im afraid that I wont be able to find a job!!! Does anyone know of any other hospitals in the Atlanta area that are hiring???
Did u just recently graduate in April/May?? If yes, you needed to look into jobs back in Jan/Feb, especially for L&D. In fact people in my class, (May 2009) are starting to set themselves up this summer and we still have our senior year to go. This summer we all tried to get externships in the unit we were most interested in, in order to have a leg up on people when we contact recruiters in Jan/Feb to start setting up interviews for march/april. When you want to go into a popular specialty or any specialty for that matter as a new grad you need to get the wheels moving very early in your senior year. For example, this summer i'm doing an externship in the NICU at an area hospital hoping that the valuable experience will give me a leg up on the competition for the few new grad NICU slots in the area when i apply. Keep looking but you may need to settle for now just to get our foot in the door and jump on it when a slot opens up.
Hello,
Yellow Finch....Which one of the wellstar hospitals do you work for? Do you know their starting salary for new grad? I was also wondering if all 5 of the hospitals have the same salary range. Anyway I am also a new grad RN and have been working for Wellstar at cobb for a number of years(not as a nurse). I know the starting salary for new grad at cobb and want to know if the starting salary is the same at Douglas or kennestone. I am still in the transition mode and have also been looking outside the system. Thank you
I found it was best to apply in person. Go to the HR office and ask to speak with a nurse recruiter. Almost all of the hospitals in atlanta have new grad residency programs.

Kennestone. I'm not sure what the new grad pay is right now since we just had that cost of living increase earlier in the year. I think it's somewhere in the region of $22-23. Does that sound about right?
