Re: pct/nurse tech wages

where in florida? how much experience do you have (besides nursing school)? in st pete/tampa area, nursing students with NO previous cna experience can expect 10ish/hour....maybe 11plus if you have a very very nice manager who expects you to come work for her after you graduate. that is base pay, and doesn't include shift differentials for evenings or overnights. in miami, pay is LOWER even though cost of living is higher...base pay for CNAs with no experience is 9.50ish in hospitals.....again it might be higher if you get hired as a PCT versus a CNA....but i wouldn't say you're ever going to see more than 12/hour base pay. Shift differentials for CNAs/PCTs typically hover around a dollar an hour for evenings, and a dollar fifty an hour for overnights.

again, that is for tampa/st pete area, and miami area.

hope that helps!

Re: pct/nurse tech wages

In Volusia County, nurse techs average around $10.50-11.50/hr (this position is reserved for EMT's or nursing students who have completed the first semester of nursing school though).

After the first semester of nursing school, Morton Plant Mease pays 11.09. However they just implemented a new job description called the nursing apprentice. It pays 12.50 and allows you to start IV's, trach care/suction, removal of NG tubes and that goes into effect after you complete level 3 and are entering your final semester. Pretty exciting to practice those skills in the real world versus on a manequin.

Start IVs? Wow, I recall we didn't even learn how to start IVs on a fake arm until the last month of nursing school. My, how things have changed!!

They have indeed. The will be implementing this job description change in the next few months...however, it doesn't affect me too much because by the time they finish rolling it out, I'll be done with school anyhow. But good for the next nursing generation behind me.
