Northside Hospital and Heart Institute ST Petes

Hi , I wonder if anybody could give me any information about Northside hospital located in St Petersburg. I am a registered nurse in the UK and I have just passed my NCLEX and received my US registration. I have managed to gain sponsership to obtain my GC. So far the hospital has been very supportive but I was wondering if I could receive any more info. Also does anyone know the area ? We have been over last month looking at the neighbourhoods, quite like the idea of Palm Harbor any suggestions?

This is the worst hospital in the area. You will end up with 8/1 staffing ratio on PCU and med-surg 3/1 in ICU and CCU with no CNA's, charge nurse or unit secretary's. No supplies and bad attitudes from staff and management. Good luck if you go there.

Well, I wouldn't put it so roughly, but Northside does seem to have staffing issues more than other places. This may be why there seems to be a higher ratio of foreign nurses there than elsewhere. It is also true that they do not stock their supplies very well. ( I would vote for Palms of Pasadena Hospital as the worst in the area.)

Palm Harbor is a very nice area. I would recommend it in Pinellas county. I'm in Clearwater and would like to move up there myself. You'll have a bit of commute, but not bad.

The fact they are sponsoring a UK nurse speaks volumes for their staffing difficulties in my opinion. I have a friend who works there and seems to like it o.k. She works nights and have 7:1 ratio for the most part, which isn't unusual in this area. She gets plenty of overtime. In fact most of her coworkers are working overtime to cover the holes.

They've recently become unionized and that's a plus.

You're probably going to have a rough communte from Palm Harbor to Saint Petersburg. There's a lot of traffic, especially "in season" which is the winter months. It would probably be a 30 minute to 45 minute drive. I would try to find something a little more close if I were you.
